A lovely well equipped cottage on outskirts of Marsden. A rural setting with lakes canals and interesting walks. All very relaxing.
We had a lovely stay for 3 nights at Sparth Cottage. It was clean, tidy, with a good selection of books, maps and DVDs relating to the area. It's so quiet you'd think you were in the middle of nowhere, but in reality you've got everything on the doorstep. We'll definitely be back.
Sparth cottage is beautifully situated next to the Sparth reservoir and the canal, and beyond the distant views of the moors will make you want to head for the hills. There are wonderful walks from the cottage, so no need to drive out somewhere. Marsden is very much a walkers are welcome kind of place. The cottage is warm, cosy and very comfortable and great to relax in after a day out. It is very quiet and we still have much more to explore so we'll be back. We loved it!
If a quiet and peaceful stone cottage in the heart of the pennine hills, nicely isolated but not too far from town appeals to you, then Sparth cottage is the ideal location. Set in a picture perfect spot overlooking canal and lake and fabulously surrounded by hills, you will only be a 10-15min walk from the lovely old town of Marsden with its thriving shops and pubs, It is the perfect base for walking, exploring Marsden and the surrounding area or just simply relaxing in the countryside. The cottage itself is really well catered for if you just decided to stay and take in the atmosphere and views. You might decide to bird watch. Binoculars, note book and outside bird feeder are provided. The kitchen is really well stocked with utensils if you fancied cooking up a hearty feast, The living room, with its comfy sofa and chairs, wide range of dvds and books, alot based on local knowledge, will make it difficult to want to venture out from this cozy, comfortable and beautiful cottage. Theres even a log burner fire, Upstairs you;ll have no problems getting a good nights sleep in the quiet comfortable bedrooms, both across from the bathroom. All in all, a fantastic stay in the depths of a wintery February, anytime of the year would be great to stay. The cottage is wonderful and we were made to feel very welcome. There is no doubt we will definately go back.
Set next to a reservoir and canal, complete with lock gates, the cottage is a 10-15 minute walk along the tow path from Marsden but feels quite rural. There is a small, enclosed yard at the front, useful for letting the dog out in the morning. The walking from the door is fab so, once arrived, we didn't bother with the car again until we left. There's also a brilliant pub, The Rose and Crown, on Cop Hill to the north that is well worth the steep 25 minute walk, or is a 5 minute drive. The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived and the heating was easy to control when the warmth needed a little boost. There's also a log burner with enough logs etc for at least one lighting. The kitchen is pleasant and very well equipped. The double bed is very hard so bring a spare duvet as a mattress topper if you have achy bones. All in all a lovely place in a great area - recommended!
