After walking from Holkham to Burnham Overy on a very warm day, and found The Hero immediately opposite where the coastal path joined the main road. We were tired and hungry but worried about where to go as we had two dogs with us.
We didn't need to worry, as when we walked into the bar we saw doggie water bowls on the floor next to the bar!
The menus looked good and there was a reasonable selection of beers and gins available.
We had the Welsh Rarebit on sourdough bread and found it quite delicious and filling.
Now we know it is there, we will definitely be back again soon!

Been using this pub for years. The rebuild was well done and staff friendly and efficient. But (you knew that was coming) the snacks were very expensive for what they were, limited selection and not very good. On top of that there was very loud musak, fine for a dance club but not for conversation in a pub

Came here after a walk for some beer and food. Food was great - perfect chips, delicious cromer crab bruschetta. Came back for Sunday lunch the next day it had been so nice and we were not disappointed. Roast beef was tender and cooked to perfection. Fish and chips ans fish stew also looked wonderful. Would highly recommend, great food, good service and stylishly decorated pub.

This attractively situated, detached, Free House sits right on the main A149 North Norfolk coast raod at Burnham Overy Staithe. It has ample free parking, including some for Blue Badge holders. It also has two patios, one either side of the pub (with rooms) which were being well used on the bright sunny day when we visited after enjoying a short stay parked on the hard standing by the nearby ebbing water. It obviously the well deserved patronage of boaters, walkers and dog lovers alike.
Unfortunately, we only wanted a very light lunch because we were booked to enjoy dinner at a certain establishment at Morston! But we were nevertheless warmly and cheerfully welcomed inside to a double aspect comfortable table in the bar area. Items on the main menu and specials board looked most enticing but with difficulty we held ourselves back! I had seared scallops (I can never resist them!) and my wife chose their (very large!) welsh rarebit. Both dishes were delicious and, together with what we we saw being served around us, enforced our regrets at not sampling their obviously skilled dishes. What stood out for us was that our perhaps rather meagre lunch choices didn't affect the warmth and friendliness with which we were served.
The choice of drinks on offer was excellent and I especially noticed the super gin menu. Pity I had to restrain myself as I was driving back to Blakeney and we both had soft drinks! But it was overall a very enjoyable lunch stop and thank you to all the team at The Hero. Pity we live so far away in Hampshire!

We stopped here after a particularly blustery walk along the bank from Brancaster Staithe - what a find! Great atmosphere for a September mid-week, seemed popular with dog walkers and non dog walkers alike.

Thinking we would just have a quick bite as we had dinner booked elsewhere that evening we found a nice table and ordered. The Welsh Rarebit was gorgeous and husband's fish and chips (although a bit pricey) was huge and the best he'd had for a while. Having such success we then came to the old problem of whether to have dessert. Discussing whether to get the bus back or face the now gale-force winds we decided to go for the dessert on the understanding we forewent the bus! I had the sticky toffee pudding which came with pannacotta but I swaped that for ice cream. Husband had plum tart tatin. We left nothing except a tip and left to face the head-wind back to Brancaster Staithe.
