We cannot recommend Hello Velo highly enough. Within about 30 seconds of arriving Jo had pressed cold beers into our hands and made us feel as if we'd known her for years. She is an amazing, fun and entertaining host and nothing is too much trouble. (And we saw her out and about and she knows everyone else too!) And she's a great cook. This is a really lovely base in which to relax, then go out for a trip, and then to come back to for an excellent home cooked meal. On our two days out we had a great swim in a local lake (not my kind of thing at all but even I really enjoyed Fleury!) and a cycle ride along the canal. Now to the other host - Greg. He is absolutely lovely and an incredibly gentle person. We hired bikes from him and had a wonderful time cycling along the canal until our dog became ill. I cycled back to the hire place in a bit of a panic and Greg was kind enough to close up early, come with me to help and then cycle the remaining bike back to the shop for me so we could take the dog home. That's a lot of detail for a review but I think it deserves a special mention to show what "nothing is too much trouble" can really mean. Fortunately our dog is fine now and we are just left with happy memories of a great place. Do go there. And do call Jo beforehand if you can - you'll see what I mean! Our five year old had a lot of fun playing with Solomon and his table football skills improved a lot. Thank you so much Jo, Greg and Solomon xx
We stayed with Jo and Greg for a week in July. Their home is beautifully appointed barn conversion and the bedrooms are cosy and comfortable with great shower facilities. Jo and Greg are wonderful hosts with a breadth of knowledge about the local area. The countryside around is unspoilt, rural and very peaceful. During our week we cycled (Greg runs a cycle hire business close by and you can rent bikes by the hour), canoed, visited local historical places, markets etc , idled hours away by the river and picnicked at the local swimming lake. We enjoyed fantastic food home cooked by Jo all week. Nothing was too much trouble. Perfect holiday, returned relaxed and refreshed. Thanks Jo and Greg. We will be back!
Lovely countryside, loads to explore and see, great house and very comfy. Wonderful hosts, great food. Had a wonderful time and slept like a log.
We have just returned from our second visit to Hello Velo. Joined this year by our son and partner, all four of us spent many happy hours cycling on the quiet country roads and canal paths but also made time to visit a couple of the burgundy vineyards and some of the local towns.
Jo is an excellent cook and all our meals were enjoyed with the family with great local wines and plenty of lively conversation.
Jo and Greg are great hosts and can arrange cycle hire if required and have many maps and plenty of ideas for things to do in the area.
We feel as though there is still so much left to explore in the Burgundy region that we will be back - not least to enjoy the peace and quiet of the large back garden and gaze up at the Milky Way !! Thank you once again.
We stayed for a week at Hello Velo with our 2 daughters, aged 7 & 9. Jo & Greg are wonderful hosts with extensive knowledge of the local area (best cycling routes, wild swimming spots, food, wine etc.) Jo is an excellent cook and tailored her food to suit our family. We all enjoyed the fun of eating en famille, often with other guests and locals. The canal cycle paths are perfect for young children and the roads away from the canal are very quiet so also make great cycling for adults and kids. We cycled most days but felt there would have been plenty to do if we'd had more days off. This is a beautiful, quiet, unspoilt area of France and Jo & Greg went out of their way to make our holiday special - we would love to return.
