We stumbled upon this place on our way from Venice to Ferrara. The exterior was interesting looking, with the tall tower and ancient appearance, but we were awestruck when the doors opened and we got a look at the gorgeous frescoes inside.

We were there on a Monday afternoon in November, and the place was very peaceful with few visitors. We were not charged an entrance fee, so we left a donation in the poor box.

We had a nice cappuccino and croissant in the cafe and enjoyed the very clean W.C. On the grounds as well!

This isolated abbey is on the site of a monastery dating back about 1500 years. The church frescoes are quite amazing and well worth seeing. Outbuildings contain some interesting museum exhibits. A 5 euro entrance fee is charged. Clean toilets and food outlets are nearby. Note that this is a convenient stop for tour buses so can get crowded at times.

This abbey was built about a thousand years ago with many of the buildings rebuilt and updated. There are lovely frescoes and grounds. It is very photogenic. It is also of great historic interest.

Worth the detour - Nice architecture and free visit. There is not a lot to see in the area but you'll be amazed by that abbey if you pass by.

On saturdays and sundays volunteers give you access to the bell tower. The Abbey is a beauty, the floor of the church fabulous, frescoes on the walls.
