Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Glenkinchie Distillery lies in the heart of the East Lothian countryside, 15 miles from Edinburgh. Why not pay a visit to see how we produce the Edinburgh Malt. After a trip around our museum, where you can see a wonderful model of a distillery, you will then be taken round the distillery by one of our experienced and informative guides who will explain the stages of production of Single Malt Whisky. You will visit the Kiln Room, the Millroom, The Mash House, the Tun Room and the Stillhouse where you will see one of the largest Copper Pot Stills in Scotland. After a trip to the traditional warehouse you will finish up in the bar with a dram or two of Whisky

This distillery is worth a visit. The tour is very informative and entertaining, the guide was very kind and the whisky tasting at the end was quite fun!

The thing that struck me the most at Glenkinchie was the absence of employees...it now only takes 2-3 persons to run the distillery unlike years ago when there was need for over 30 persons. I was also intrigued with the history of workers living in houses on lands owned by the distillery and on the periphery of the distillery....not unlike the case of plantation workers being housed on plantation grounds when sugar was king in Barbados. The manager was flawless in his delivery of the steps to make a good whiskey and was clearly knowledgeable about the history of whiskey-making in Scotland which is most important to me

My husband and I came to Glenkinchie from Mississippi, USA during our tour of Scotland. The distillery was beautiful from the outside. Parking was easy to find and close to the site. I really enjoyed the seasonal flowers in the barrel planters — they were such a fun nod to the distillery’s history and a nice contrast to the facility. The museum before the tour was very helpful and enlightening! I really appreciated the museum being before the tour rather than after, as I felt I had better insight to some of geographical nuances found in Scotland, as well as some of the practices. Our tour guide (John, I think?) was very kind and personable, and spoke lovely Italian to an Italian couple in our small group. He was very informative and professional, and we really enjoyed talking to him in the tasting room at the bar for our Flavors of Scotland tour. We appreciated his passion for the craft and his insight to the marriage of future and past in whiskey. We could have talked to him for an hour! Wonderful experience — we plan to return to Scotland in the next year or two, and we would definitely do a higher tier tour with Glenkinchie at that time.

Very good tour. We were a group of 6 friends visiting Edinburgh for the weekend. We were picked up on a shuttle bus from the centre at 10am and it was a 35 minute drive to the distillery. Brian was our tour guide and he was very informative and friendly. At the end, everyone was able to try two whiskeys. We paid extra (I think only £2) to try a couple more whiskies of our choice, which was definitely worth it. The shuttle back left at 12:45, so the tour was 1.5 - 2 hours total. The tour is a great thing to do, especially if it’s a rainy day!

Beautiful country setting just 30 minutes from down town Edinburgh . Very informative tour . It is a beautiful distillery to walk around. Our tour guide , John ( white hair- they have 2 people named John) was absolutely amazing . He made the experience that much more. We are so glad that we chose this distillery . We were allowed to talk pictures everywhere but one area. We had 4 tastings at the end which was great . Very professional and responsible, they offer " doggy bottles" for left over from the Scotch tastings . We enjoyed a few more sips after dinner !
