We recently returned from a 10 day stay at this beautiful property, where my new hubby and I were married. There were 8 of us total, as there are 3 bedrooms in the main house and an additional 1 the guest house that Steve made available to us. The amenities are plentiful, the views amazing, the gardens Spectacular!
Loved this tranquil location far from the crowded Cruz Bay Area, and all beaches, and restaurants within a 15-30 minute drive. You must rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle, as driving can be tricky.
We loved this property so much that we were Wed in the gardens, had our champagne toast and appetizers right after our ceremony at the pool bar, and had an exceptional candlelit, outdoor catered dinner on the upstairs covered deck.
Loved this trip and the property.
What a trip to remember!
Just returned Monday from a wonderful 5 night stay at Villa Dos Palmas near Coral Bay, St. John. Steve, the owner, was very easy to work with and was willing to answer any questions we had about the property and surrounding area. We greatly enjoyed the quieter east side of St. John and found the villa to be well situated with both north and south shore beaches within a 10-20 minute ride. The villa is up in the mountains which affords spectacular views of Hurricane Hole with the British Virgin Islands in the distance. The altitude also brings nice breezes and few insects.
The property is beautifully landscaped with outdoor seating not only on the decks and around the pool but in various little corners surrounded by lush tropical plantings. The main living area of the villa is upstairs with a separate entrance and the three bedrooms (each with their own full bathroom) are down an outdoor staircase. It was the perfect set-up for my husband and me who were travelling with our two young adult children and their significant others. The villa is well stocked with sheets, towels, beach towels & chairs, coolers and the kitchen has everything you could need (even a few staples like spices, olive oil, vinegar, etc.) It is beautifully decorated yet very comfortable and the views from every window are spectacular.
Driving in St. John is not for the faint of heart. You really need a four-wheel drive vehicle and the nerve to drive on the left up and down steep, winding, often deeply rutted roads. That said, the road to the villa is far less scary than some driveways we saw that looked impossible to enter or exit. Steve arranged for someone to meet us in Coral Bay to lead us to the villa the first time to be sure we found it okay which was very helpful. We rented our 7 passenger Ford Explorer and bought our main groceries on St. Thomas before taking the ferry to St. John which worked out well.
It's about a 25-30 minute drive from Cruz Bay where the ferry from St. Thomas arrives to Coral Bay. We found plenty of great restaurants in the Coral Bay area to keep us happy but if you are a shopper, Cruz Bay on St. John or St. Thomas is the place for you. But if you are interested in snorkeling from gorgeous seldom-crowded beaches, consider staying in the Coral Bay area and Villa Dos Palmas is a great choice.
