Dorchester Classic Vehicle Club ended our Primrose Run at The Royal Oak. What a find, from the staff who were so welcoming and lovely. To the Sunday roast carvery it was delicious. We had 19 members who enjoyed the whole experience. We would highly recommend this lovely pub. Will be back soon.

Thank Kevin T

Eleven of us went for dinner here and we were very impressed with both the service and the choice of gluten free food. I looked at their website and was disappointed to find that gluten free options aren't listed but called to speak to a lady who was very helpful and guided me through the menu and the choices that my son had. We had to call a couple of days before our meal to choose what he wanted to eat and then the actual meal was lovely.

Very good beef baguettes. Excellent welcome, service and beer.
(I have left a longer review for this good village pub; for some reason Tripadvisor have misfiled it under the wrong account, as from a new reviewer!)

Just called in here on our way back from shopping in Dorchester.
Very nice welcome, cosy decor. We ordered roast beef and horseradish baguettes and beer. Well kept beer, food arrived promptly although a lot of people arrived just after us, locals, pensioners and a big mums and toddlers group. All were ordering food, so that alone recommends this pub. Baguettes were generously full of excellent roast beef and horseradish passed o/h stringent requirements! Signs on bar show themed nights, pie night, chinese, steak. We will definitely be trying these in the future.

Arriving on our first night in Dorset on a Friday evening, we’d checked in to our farm house and popped over the road to this nice little pub for dinner, on entering it’s a nice little pub which is clear that the locals do visit on a regular basis and that I think makes pubs original and adds that character. We were shown to our table with plenty of space and right opposite to the Roast which looked delicious. There was a friendly lady who I would say is the owner who went around to everyone and made everyone feel welcomed, unfortunately our waitress was some what looked like she was having a off day, it was extremely hard to get a smile out of here even when the kids said hello. I did try but we were stuck with her the whole evening. We ordered a good selection of food, the starters are standard pub starters which you will see in all the chains across the UK, the mains well……. The roast was good as it was fresh and served up in front of us and a good size portion the rest of the main like the gammon was once again standard pub food, there really wasn’t anything special about the food except for the roast. I would suggest that if anyone is going to visit then go for the roast as this is what separates the food here compared to the other pubs everything else is the same. The ambiance was flat, and it was very very quiet, where we were seated there was about 5 tables occupied but it was silent, this pub could do with some nice soft music to make the pub feel more welcomed.

For a quick bite to eat worth a visit but not worth a visit if you are expecting a decent night out, and if you do go than make sure they are serving the roast.
