An old pub located on a sharp corner in the middle of Withington. The pub has a large car park and reasonable grounds with tables next to a small river (River Coln). The pub serves basic food in rather small potions. The beer is reasonable, though the pub could do with a wider choice of ales. 30 years ago this was a very busy pub, though sadly this is no longer the case. The staff clearly work hard, though you get the impression there is not the support from the owning brewery.

We went to the Mill for a family Easter Lunch so there were 6 of us made up from three couples. Food was ordered at the bar separately and we made a point of telling the bar man that we were all on the same table but just paying for our respective couples, 6 roasts. The first two roasts arrived without too much of a delay. Then followed a fairly lengthly wait until the arrival of the next two.Four of use had pretty much finished before the last two arrived. The lady serving us, wasn't particularly friendly, and when asked why there was such a delay, responded food was cooked in the order that orders were placed. We explained we ordered one after another within the space of a few minutes and had seen other meals coming out in between. She then said that she's be able to prove the meals weren't ordered at the same time by getting the receipts. When the final meals arrived we were informed that the 1st and last meal was ordered 2 mins apart and that chicken takes longer to cook. No hint of an apology for us not all being able to eat together. Very poor and not something any of us would have expected.

The roast beef and pork was nice but not a huge amount of veg. The chicken was dry and over cooked and possibly deep fat fried rather than roasted.

The experience with our mains put us off having dessert.

So overall not a particularly positive experience due to the rude and argumentative lady who served us.

We booked for a family meal on Easter Sunday. Landlord on arrival very polite . Landlady on the other hand was just rude. We ordered 6 meals which we ordered at the bar, we were a group of 3 couples so each couple ordered and paid one after the other. The meals came out 2 by 2 just like noahs ark but unfortunately 20 minutes apart. When this was brought up the landlady who also doubled as the cook had the cheek to go and find the bar receipts to argue back with us we ordered separately. Yes we did 2 minutes apart as per your processing through your till. Hence we didn't stay for dessert or another drink. Ps if you like wine ,hard luck there is a choice of 1 white,1 red or 1 rose. 1 piece of advice it's never wise to try and prove the customer wrong, when infact you were wrong! and an apology would have been suffice for the delay in the meals coming out so ridicously spaced out apart. When you go out for a meal.as a family you expect to eat together not a big ask!

We dropped by The Mill End on Saturday night. Having visited before we knew in advance during winter the kitchen hours are limited in the evenings but you can still get a good meal before 8pm. The three of us ordered different meals one the Gammon Egg and Chips, another the Chicken Burger, and I went for the Beef Burger and chips. The burgers came in a brioche bun and were tall with a thick tasty burger in between. The accompanying salad leaves were fresh and tasty (not limp like some establishments). Host was welcoming and with the roaring fire we had a cozy enjoyable evening.

There never seems to be a warm welcome and the food is very basic, especially for what they are charging. There is always a wait for food, even just bowls of chips.

Portions are limited and no garnish or salad as mention in menu. When asked for sauces, we were given small white paper pots that had clearly been out for days.

Such a shame as this pub could have so much potential!
