I had read a lot about this town talking it up as the idyllic Colombian Pueblo. It didn't disappoint. After 10 days in Bogota and Medellin, this place was a respite from the hustle and bustle and normal precautions to take in a big city. Spend a lazy couple of hours in the plaza reading your book, taking in the locals and having a tinto and your soul will feel refreshed.

I think Jardin is a town everyone goes to Colombia should visit. The colorful houses are photographer’s dream. We stayed at a bed and breakfast nearby, which was run by a Spanish and Colombian and it was fantastic. We were there from the coffee region and going to Medellin.

The entire city of Jardin can be considered a historic center, but the main streets are simply wonderful. The colonial architecture is beautiful, with well-preserved facades, and a lovely, great, peaceful vibe to walk around.

A number of people told me to get to Jardin before it is 'discovered' so off I went. Three hours from Medellin by bus on curvy roads. Well worth the effort! On the weekend this town rocks with Colombians from Medellin filling the plaza. During the week it is much more sedate but still the plaza is full of family's drinking coffee and just hanging out. Very clorful, very easy to get around and extremely easy to find a place to eat or get a drink. Very striking church hovers over the plaza. It is worthwhile to walk all around the town to see how people live since most people's doors and windows are open so you can peek inside. Coming to town from the south is difficult since there are only 2 busses from Riosucio and it is a 3 hour bone crunching ride on very rough gravel roads.

The central plaza is a delightful garden-like setting. Lots of trees, shrubs and a fountain, surrounded by patio area were you can sip coffee or nibble on lunch. It is obviously a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Great atmosphere to relax and spend quality time.
