We sheltered here during a thunderstorm whilst walking from Kandersteg to Leukerbad and sat, dripping wet, enjoying our hot chocolates and home made blueberry tart whilst we waited for the storm to pass. Definitely worth a stop on a long walk, or it's even a good destination to walk to for lunch or a drink from either Kandersteg or Leukerbad as it's about half way between the two.

We where given a 6 person room for the 4 of us. Very clean and well looked after, lots of space too. The restaurant would rate 5 stars in the valley let alone at 2000m altitude and a long way from the road! Excellent layout for the skis in the basement, drying room etc.

We walked from Leukerbad to Kandersteg, and stayed here for the night. We reserved a private double room in advance.
This is a very cool, and surprisingly comfortable place to stay. We were greeted like old friends by Peter, and made comfortable right away.
There was decent WiFi, many plugs for charging in good locations like the desk and bedside. The storage is minimal but you are hiking with minimal stuff in a pack anyway. The room was well lit, window opens out to lake and mountain view.
The toilet and shower is across the hall, separate toilets (men and womens) and two showers, shared among nine rooms on our floor. Sharing them and cleanliness was not a problem.
The room was so clean that it seemed like it had just been built. Seriously. Not a smudge or speck of dust anywhere.
Towels and bedding provided.
You store your shoes in the basement, and wear house shoes (loaners provided). This helps keep things really clean as well.
I looked into some of the open six and four bed rooms, and they were clean and set up very straightforward as well.
The dinner was excellent, and you could have seconds on the soup, salad and part of the main course, so there is no way you will go hungry. Drinks are not included in the dinner price, just FYI. Breakfast was wonderful and filling. This was a great experience in a beautiful setting. We would stay here again and are considering setting up a multi-day, walk across the Alps trip, based on this.

Great place! Our travel party of 4 had to stay overnight unplanned, to seek shelter for snow and wind. The owner/Hüttenwirt was very friendly, welcomed us and showed us around with enthusiasm and really made us feel at home. The hotel has every convenience you might need for wintersports (tourski, snowhiking, etc) including separate rooms for storing equipment and to dry stuff (even wet sleeping bags could be hung in this room.) The food was good and everything you need when you are outside all day...

Despite my wife's (perhaps justifiable) grumbling as I 'pulled' her behind me up the final climb from the Sunnbuel plateau to the Schwarenbach (originally a Customs post, and reputedly one of the oldest mountain inns in the country), it was more than worth the effort when we found ourselves sitting outside on the sunny patio, admiring the snow-covered scenery, and enjoying a well-earned Berner Rosti with a beer: a winter walking break at its very best.
