“Cochem Chair lift”

We took the chair lift up to Pinner Kreuz which is a lookout over the Mosel and spectacular views of Cochem and the castle. The lookout is dominated by a large cross that is illuminated at night and visible from the town.

The double chair lift took about 5-10 mins to reach the top of the hill. From there you walk another few minutes to the outcrop where the lookout is found.(Note: The footpath is quite rocky and has roots from trees sticking out plus there are also steps to climb that are a bit worn. If you are unsure of your footing I would not attempt it).

There is a coffee shop/restaurant at the top but we did not go there. Also there are hiking trails you can take that lead you back down into the town or along the ridge to other locations.

Especially with a 19 month in tow, we did not have it in us to hike up the hillside for a birds eye view of Cochem. Rather, we opted to ride the chair lift - it offers a great view and in our case was better than hiking - though I am sure it is a great hike up.

The ride is short and was around 7 euro per adult - we did have to ride in separate lifts as only 2 people are allowed per car - even a baby being worn in a carrier.

It was worth it for the experience and view - not sure it is a "must."

Although, the view from the top was awesome, the cafe there offered nothong special, and the service was mildly said uninspiring.

The Sesselbahn (chair lift) is easy to find and get fun. At the top there are great views of Cochem and the Mosel River. There is also a restaurant.

A return trip is 6.90 euro per adult and the trip takes around 5 minutes each way

There is a view of the town but not much else to see

There is a small car park at the bottom of the chairlift which we did not use so I don't know how much this was and it could probably only accommodate 20 to 30 car

we have been on cheaper and nicer cable car rides in Germany
