I was asked to join someone for a coffee at the Saddle Inn, a place i had never heard of. It is situated at the Shongweni Club, famous for the international polo tournament which happens every September.
What a beautiful little spot and my coffee turned into lunch. The staff are attentive and it's always nice to be greeted with a big smile.
The cappuccino's are the best around in my opinion (i have now had many more since my first visit) The food is simple "Home" cooking in many ways. The half chicken is to die for and the manager was very proud of their special chicken machine. They use only fresh chickens and the taste tells.
The burgers are huge and the pizzas are crispy and loaded with toppings.

The venue is mostly outdoors under a large stretch marquee and it's just a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by while relaxing with a wholesome meal and something to drink.
The kids have a blast in the kiddies section and you feel safe to let them run wild.
Definately worth a visit.

If you're thirsty, it's a place to drink. If you're hungry, it's a place to eat. If you're a betting person, I'm betting you'll be at the track instead.

I was fortunate enough to enjoy a meal at The Saddle Inn last night and was really surprised by the quality of the food.

The venue was pleasant considering that the primary function is as a horse riding club – the restaurant décor obviously follows a horsey theme but is very tasteful and smart. There was a nice big fire going in the restaurant and another in the adjacent bar.

The Saddle Inn is certainly not a fine dining establishment (yet) but the quality of the food for the prices charged was certainly a welcome change.
There were 5 adults at our table, 2 of us had the Forrester’s Steaks medium rare - the steaks were delicious and perfectly cooked although the plating could have been made a bit more exciting by adding a little salad as a garnish. 2 guests had pizzas and both commented on the quality of the food - the pizzas looked really good and came from a wood burning oven which makes all the difference. The remaining guest, a first time visitor from Ireland who travels the world told us that her Spinach and Feta Tremaine was the best she has ever had.

The 500g Forrester’s Rump steak was priced at R90 which is a pretty good deal.

The Saddle Inn engaged the services of a new F&B Manager a few months ago and his efforts are very obviously beginning to bear fruit.

The waitron was pleasant enough and we had no complaints but a little professional training could make the difference between pleasant and special.

The Saddle Inn is definitely worth a visit for the casual meal. If you are into horses, visiting the club during the daytime on weekends could be a most enjoyable day out in the country with a good meal to boot.
