Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The ambition of the musée Nicéphore Niépce is to explain the basics of photography from its invention by Niépce up to today’s digital imagery. Its collections bring together almost three million photographs and objects that provide the possibility of a constantly renewed experience visit after visit. The use of interactive terminals and increasingly sophisticated technology provides a deeper understanding of the photographic world. The museum is planned as an initiation to the broad principles of photography. Professional prints are displayed side by side with amateur efforts. The illustrated press has an important place as an essential support to the worldwide spread of the medium. The collection’s central room: the Discovery room, with the world’s first camera used by Nicéphore Niépce, the inventor to whom a room of the museum is dedicated.

This museum dedicated to the famed photographer is well worth the trip. Besides information about him and his art there is usually an good exhibit of photos. Not a large museum, it is suitable for children also.

This photography museum is entirely free. It exhibits multiple very old cameras and daguerréotypes. There are also multiple movies and one interactive very old 3D pictures. 1 hour is enough to see most of it. Not much is done for kids.

An interesting museum for photography enthusiasts but most people would find something of interest in this extensive display. You can see old photography equipment, learn about the development of photography techniques or even just view an extensive collection of photographs from early examples to the present day.
The major signs were in English as well as in French. Allow plenty of time.
