Veronique the owner has been so helpfully, kind and careful It was like staying at home. Couldn't do enough for us and breakfast was just delicious. Thanks again for everything, it has been a pleasure staying at your place. We will be back!
This hotel is very close to the train station, and within a short, 15-min walk to everything in town, from supermarkets and bistros to the marina & the ferry terminal. It's on a main street, but is quiet at night. The concierge was very helpful--she provided us with maps, recommendations for restaurants, and even gave us breakfast to-go for the train ride on the morning we left!
We had dinner at the L'Eveil des Sens on our first night, one of the business cards we picked up at the hotel. It was absolutely amazing--the food was one of the best meals I've ever had, and the couple who runs the place were fantastic. So friendly and patient, as we tried to order in 'franglais' :) Such a wonderful night--really looking forward to coming back!
Stayed overnight at the Rex en route back to Ireland. Only second visit to Lorient. First visit had been two weeks earlier and had lasted approximately 30 minutes due to late arrival of flight from Ireland. It had consisted of a mad dash from airport by taxi to catch train to start first leg of holiday My son had found the Rex for me. Arrived for second visit around midnight by TGV from Paris. Hotel is close to station. Was able to walk from railway station to hotel, which I found very easily. The proprietor/manager had arranged for me to get into the hotel after hours. Excellent room for the night and generous continential range of fare for breakfast the next morning. Proprietor/manager was extremely friendly and informative about area. He has now become slightly reticent about the decor of the reception and bar area, which has a very pronounced nautical theme. This includes a reception desk carved out in the shape of a ship's bow. He told me that the hotel is the base for most of the Irish participants in the annual Lorient Inter-Celtic Festival. All in all, a great find.
