Restaurants in pretty squares are always a risk, but Le Bistrot is well worth a punt. Lunch for the family, with a real twist on le menu enfant, at a reasonable price.
Lots of duck, as you’d imagine for this part of the world, but prompt service, well cooked food. Maybe the desserts are a little pricey but they were very tasty. Would come back

It's my experience that those places with outdoor seating on a main square seldom have good food. But after reading the reviews, I decided to give Le Bistrot a try. The roast duck confit with Sarlat potatoes was excellent, the vibe convivial (with music playing in the square) and the prices were good. Seems like a good place for families, since the kids can get a burger.

We had a busy day and could only get out for dinner close to nine pm. As most of people know, this means almost no restaurants will serve you. That's exactly what happened: our restaurant of choice had just finished service. But they were super nice to suggest we try Le Bistrot because they are open until late. And it was a great choice! We arrived a little after nine and got a table in the terrasse. The servers were not very "agreable" but there was one girl that we believe had just started that was super nice. My husband ordered a tartare a Perigord and for me a salad with foie gras. Everything was delicious! The price was fair.

Yes there are lots of restaurants in Sarlat, and yes this one is bang in the middle of the tourist area right in front of the cathedral, but it is REALLY GOOD - attentive professional service, really good local food well cooked and a really nice well priced wine list, book a table on the terrace and enjoy

We ate there one evening in May. The menu was uninspiring and the service not so good. My wife opted just for an omelette and specifically said 'no starter', whereas I wanted starter and main. The omelette itself was good, my foie gras starter was average and my main course beef fine. The servers however decided to serve my wife's omelette at the same time as my starter, not a big issue really but just annoying and showing a considerable lack of thought - or they just didn't care.
