“Location Location Location”
Reviewed 4 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

The house is in a spectacular location, overlooking the river and the valley. The descriptions, if anything, rather underplay the beauty of the place. From the terrace you can watch hot air balloons go past and just laze about and watch the river flow by. Early morning there were fish jumping, geese flying by and swans on the river. We were very lucky with the weather so the kids even braved the pool on Christmas day. We had spent a couple of weeks travelling around South West France and Northern Spain beforehand, and we know the Dordogne quite well, so we were glad to settle for a week over Christmas. As we were not too bothered about exploring, we spent a lot of time just relaxing in the house, cooking, reading etc. The village is gorgeous, with a nice little bakery, butcher and small grocery just down the road where you can get all the basics you need, then just a short drive into Sarlat for anything else. You can walk up and visit the castle or just stroll by the river. Couple of good restaurants in the village as well. The facilities in the house are excellent, three good bedrooms each with a bathroom, plenty of hot water, efficient heating, well-equipped kitchen and the pool. Even British TV. Car access to the house is a little difficult but you are told about this beforehand. We had a medium size Opel Meriva and braved the drive up the steep narrow road to the house once, but it was a bit nerve-wracking. We usually parked down in the village and walked up the steep hill. It would be fine in a smaller car. Check the Youtube video to see the drive up to the house. Booking process very easy and straightforward. Communication swift and efficient. Credit card payment was no problem, security deposit via Paypal which was quickly returned afterwards. All in all, a lovely place, relaxing and beautiful.

“Crown Jewel in Enchanting Village”
Reviewed 4 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

When we arrived and opened the gate into the terrace and house, we gasped with delight at the view down to the river and across the verdant valley. Booking was easy, Xanthe responded quickly to any questions and was available for information both before the stay and while we were there. The house is exactly as described and the central location in Beynac extraordinary..Beynac itself was our favorite village of all that we explored. The cobblestone streets are often steep but one forgets the effort required while gazing at the charming honey-colored stone houses and from old, young, and infirm, we navigated the village without trouble. As for the hot air balloons, one evening by the pool, they descended so close to us that we felt we could hop into the baskets!

“A truly charming property with stunning views in a beautiful location.”
Reviewed 17 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

My family (husband, two boys age 11 and 16) and I stayed at The Ancienne Post for a week in July 2015. Xanthe and Hamish are modest about this gorgeous house. It is a beauty, stylishly furnished, comfortable and well equipped and in a picture-postcard setting, sitting above the Dordogne and with four chateaux visible from the window seats in the sitting room, terrace, pool or garden. There are local shops (mini supermarket, boulangerie, boucherie) a 5 minute walk away, several bars and restaurants and plenty to see and do within a 30 minute drive. We loved every minute of our stay. (Joanne Harris fans take note, this house is in the village Chocolat was filmed in.)

“Magnificent house in an incredible location”
Reviewed 31 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We recently stayed one week in this beautiful home. I was traveling with my son,his wife, and my granddaughter and his childhood friends. The view from this house is probably the most spectacular I have ever seen. The house itself was very roomy and comfortable for the 7 of us. The pictures are very accurate as to the beauty of this place. The village and the amenities available were just what I was looking for. (Not over run with tourists, very beautiful, walking distance to bakery and shops). One could easily stay here the whole week if you are looking for a relaxing vacation. We cooked almost all our meals and really enjoyed it. The area also has much to offer in interesting touring. We loved most of all the easy access to the beautiful river as it was quite hot during our stay. We enjoyed daily float trips down the river into the village. The streets in the village are very steep and could be quite challenging for older, not so fit travelers.
Xanthe was very helpful every step of the way, before, during and after our visit.
I would not hesitate recommending booking this beautiful house for your once in a lifetime vacation in an incredibly beautiful area.

“Picture Perfect”
Reviewed 20 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

This was a wonderful property with all the amenities and space that we required. The description of the house was accurate and the booking process and guest notes were all well set out and informative.
This is such a beautiful part of the world and it was a treat to stay in such a gorgeous setting with an amazing view of the beautiful Dordogne River.
The swimming pool was an added bonus as our visit was during the time of a heat wave in Europe - not that we were complaining about the weather, it was perfect!
