We have stayed in many cottages in the UK and France, but keep getting drawn back to this gem in the gorgeous French countryside. The reason, I think, for our many return visits is the kindness and care of the owners who live nearby. The cottage itself is a beautifully appointed old, historic building; cosy and comfortable with all the facilities you would expect, but the finishing touches don't really jump out until you're there. The welcoming flowers and poire chilling in the fridge; every possible thing you could need in the kitchen; crisp, cotton sheets on the large and comfortable bed; the squashy sofas in front of the roaring log fire with a ready supply of logs; the glorious sunsets watched from the patio, glass in hand, while the bats swoop and dive around the cottage. There are so many lovely places to visit nearby such as Domfront or further afield to Bayeux; and the D-Day landing beaches and cemeteries are also within easy reach - very poignant and thought provoking and well worth seeing. We would strongly recommend Le Poirier if you would like a restful base, either to chill out in glorious seclusion or to use to explore this beautiful area. We are looking forward to returning next year.
