We are just returning from a delightful week in Judy and James' casa in Vasto. The house is thoughtfully equipped and comfortable and located right in the heart of the old town - so within easy walking distance of lots of wonderful bars and restaurants. Even at the end of the season most places were open and the lovely mild weather meant that we could still sip cappuccinos in the square - but without the heat and crowds of summer. The Abruzzo is fantastic and the casa makes a perfect base for exploring the region. We drove into the mountains in the Majella national park and visited ancient towns and villages clinging to mountainsides. One of the real pluses for us was that there was really very little English spoken both in the town and in the region in general - visitors here are primarily other Italians. That said, communicating was never a problem - Italians are really friendly and with a smattering of phrases and Google translate you can go a long way. Judy and James live in the town and provide lots of helpful info: they are genuinely concerned for their visitors to have a good holiday. Warmly recommended!
A lovely house in a great location. Just a couple of minutes walk to the main piazzas, but just far enough to be reasonably quiet in the evenings. Judy and James were incredibly helpful, helping to organise our transfers, and meeting us on arrival to give us a tour of the town.
Vasto is a lovely place; it felt incredibly safe and friendly, with loads of restaurants, cafes, gelatarias and shops. The beach at Marina di Vasto was great - stretches for miles with really clean sea. Sunbeds are available to rent daily if needed, but there's a beach umbrella provided in the apartment so not a requirement!
We would definitely recommend a visit - it's a great place to get away from it all, and experience a slice of real Italy. Just remember to bring your Sunday best for some people watching and aperitifos every evening!
Spent a week here in July. Casa was just as described. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Brilliant location. James and Judy were excellent hosts. Would certainly recommend staying here.

Centrally located, the casa is close to the many bars, restaurants in the historical centre. Vasto is a beautiful place where you can experience "real" Italy. We walked to the beach most days, with a stop at the gelateria for the best ice cream before getting the bus back up to the Piazza. In the evening, we enjoyed apperitivos while relaxing in one of the bars before having a nice meal in one of the various restaurants. Some evenings we stayed in and cooked our own seafood spaghetti with mussells and other shellfish collected from the beach!
Judy and James were fantastic hosts - very helpful with information both before our stay and while there.
Judy & James could not be better hosts and the 28 page booklet you get before you arrive certainly helps you maximise all the sights and food&drink opportunities.
Their Casa is ideally placed in the historic centre so everything in within walking distance and there are many, many restaurants/bars where you can get great food at reasonable prices. The Aperitiv is a great way to start the evening with an Aperol Spritz and nibbles, this cocktail may just about replace Pimms on hot days. It was great not having a car and their driver Franco picks you up and returns you in an air-con MPV. Less hassle and an opportunity to see the countryside and vast fields of vines and olives. Highly recommended.
