We were staying in Merano and had taken the chair lift up to the restaurant on top, only to find it closed. So, we walked behind the restaurant and saw several hotels interspersed between the vineyards and apple trees. Walking by most of them, we found they were closed. We wandered into the Hotel Sonnbichl and found that they had an expansive patio with multiple levels of pools, outdoor seating and views to amaze! No one else was there and we asked if they were serving lunch, to which they said "Yes!" The server was extremely friendly and definitely wanted us to have a great time. Once the food came out, my friend was presented with a plate of the most beautiful salad I've seen (and I'm from California!). Everything was delicious and the bread plate alone was a work of art. If you go, please walk through the property, see the pools and the spa area as they are stunning!
