We recently made a trip to South Tyrol and spent quite a bit of time checking out some of the highly rated restaurants in the area. The culinary highlight of this trip was by far our experience at Farmerkreuz.
We called ahead to organize a special vegetarian menu that also addressed some of our individual food preferences. Sometimes this is a not only a bit of a challenge to organize but actually quite difficult to get proper support with. I had none of these challenges at Farmerkreuz. The staff were always very friendly and accommodating.
After arriving at the restaurant for our dinner, we had some time to enjoy the stunning view from their balcony overlooking the mountains and valley below before going inside to enjoy an outstanding dinner in their very tastefully decorated restaurant.
Despite the chef not usually offering a vegetarian menu, all of the courses he prepared for us demonstrated great creativity, subtlety of flavor, and an extremely nice balance. He knows his craft and can be flexible in what he provides. This takes real skill in the kitchen.
Regarding the service, the chef's brother is the chef de service and made sure that we were always comfortable and well provided for. This included offering us the ability to take home some of the wonderful olive oil they serve with their bread.
All in all, there was nothing I could fault in the meal or the service. Just the opposite, we were very happily surprised with everything that we experienced. Farmerkreuz is not just a restaurant not to be missed in South Tyrol, but it is also a restaurant that you will want to return to once you've been there. This is for us the sign of a truly excellent dining experience.
