“Three years in a row!”

We keep coming back! Having just returned from our 3rd stay at Casa la Roca we can't say enough about the apartment, the location and our gracious hosts Hilary and Stuart. I highly recommend this apartment. The location is perfect to explore Abruzzo.

“Fantastic base to explore beautiful Abruzzo!”
Reviewed 10 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

How wonderful it has been for us to slip into life in Abruzzo during our stay at Casa La Rocca. It was lovely to drive up and be greeted so warmly by Max, Florrie, Hilary and Stuart.. We felt instantly at home. During our week-long stay we wanted for nothing - every detail attended to so thoughtfully. We particularly appreciated the wide range of guide books and information which we used daily and that made our experience of this stunning region so much better than it might have been.
Our whole Abruzzo experience has been way beyond expectation and a highlight has definitely been staying in Casa La Rocca. Wonderful place, wonderful hosts.

“Beautiful total relaxation.”
Reviewed 2 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

This location is exactly what we expected . The walks in the national park are truly spectacular and the walk from the lodge over to the beautiful village of Pettorano is a must and not to difficult. Be warned take lunch with you as all but for a few bars are open for a drink, everything shuts from 1.00-4.00pm.
The lodge was clean and comfortable with a welcoming carafe of wine from the vineyard the owners were always to hand for any advise.
Fantastic stay .

“Lovely house, wonderful surroundings...”
Reviewed 9 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed at Casa La Rocca for a fortnight with our two young daughters (7 & 6), and had a fabulous holiday. The house itself is great - very comfortable, and with magnificent views. It really was very peaceful sitting out on the patio with a book, or just soaking up the special Abruzzo atmosphere. Our girls had an absolute ball running about the grounds and in a neighbouring field with the owners' two (lovely) dogs in tow.

As other reviewers have remarked, Stuart and Hil are generous hosts, always welcoming and ready to offer advice about the area. We were given some spot-on tips for days out (suitable for 2 youngsters) as well as places to eat in Sulmona. We also enjoyed Stuart's fine wine and the delicious tomatoes straight off the vine!

Abruzzo is a fabulous region and has so much to offer. Just driving to the surrounding villages is a treat, they all have so much character and merely wandering through the little streets is a pleasure (aided by the odd gelato of course). We especially enjoyed trips to the beautiful Campo Imperatore and up to the amazing Rocca Calascio, and our girls loved swimming in the mountain lakes and in the nearby water park (we did too, to be honest!). We weren't able to tackle strenuous hikes due to the ages of our daughters, but nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed several walks with stunning views.

All in all, we had a great holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa La Rocca as a wonderful base for exploring this beautiful region.

“A wonderful rural break and a warm welcome”
Reviewed 31 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We had a wonderful week at Casa La Rocca. The apartment is in a blissfully quiet and beautiful rural setting between the mountains just outside of Sulmona. It was the perfect place to bring our 15 month old toddler, who had a wonderful time pottering around in the garden and getting to know the two friendly dogs.

Stuart and Hilary were immensely kind and thoughtful in helping make us and our toddler feel at home, lending us toys and a paddling pool and giving us plenty of homegrown figs, vegetables and wine. Their thoughtfulness made the trip particularly lovely for us.

There is lots to do in the surrounding area. Sulmona is a lovely little town with a market twice a week and the apartment is an hour's drive from the beach and from the medieval town of Santa Stephano di Sessanio.

We would recommend this holiday to anyone.
