About Positano
Considered the jewel of southern Italy's Amalfi Coast, Positano's picturesque layout is nothing short of iconic: You'll know it by its miles of colourful buildings perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean (or the striped umbrellas spanning the shoreline—take your pick). Once a vital part of a mighty sea power, Positano is a sophisticated resort town today, overflowing with old-world charm and impossibly beautiful views—including the famous dome of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta church. Despite some steep slopes and stairs, it's a pretty walkable locale, so be sure to set aside time to take in the quaint boutiques, lemon-themed ceramics, and artisan leather goods, then enjoy fresh seafood at one of the town's countless restaurants. Positano is also a great base for exploring the area—you can easily travel by boat to Capri, Ischia, and the Grotta dello Smeraldo cave. Find all our top recs below.

My favourite spots for cocktails with a view
If ever a place was made for drinks with a view, Positano is that place. Even after living in the area for more than 15 years, I still feel like I’m on holiday, especially when I’ve got a cocktail in hand while watching the sunset. These are my go-to spots that serve up drinks just as appealing as the picture-perfect vistas.
Laura, Amalfi, Italy
- Il Tridente Cocktail Bar10No matter where you’re staying in Positano, my top choice for drinks with a dreamy view of the city is Il Tridente Cocktail bar at Hotel Poseidon. The rooftop terrace has comfy lounge chairs and a panoramic vista that’s prettier than a postcard. It’s located a bit above the centre of town, and a chill escape even during the busy season. Sample Campania wines from the extensive wine list.
- Franco's Bar347Undeniably the coolest spot for drinks, Franco’s Bar is part of the luxe Le Sirenuse Hotel. When I’m not sipping a crisp Franciacorta, the creative cocktails on the menu don’t disappoint. No bookings, so arrive early to get a coveted table before sunset.
- Positano Paradise Lounge Bar237Tucked away on a narrow shop-lined walkway leading down to the beach, Positano Paradise Lounge Bar is a popular bar in the traditional Italian sense. Here you can stop in for coffee, drinks, or desserts all day long. Try the Limoncello Spritz for an Amalfi Coast twist on a classic. A heads up: The outdoor terrace with tables is limited.
- Da Ferdinando696Drinks on the beach is a must while in Positano. When I need a break from the buzz of Spiaggia Grande, I follow Via Positanesi d'America, a walkway hugging the cliffside, over to quieter Fornillo beach and grab a table at Da Ferdinando. It’s a casual spot for a seaside Aperol Spritz with great views.
- Terrazza Cele448A bit more under the radar in the best way, the Cocktail Bar at the beautiful Hotel Marincanto is my rec if you’re looking for romance. It’s got a secluded vibe steps down from the street and the views of Positano are incredible. It’s only open in the evenings, so get there early then stay for dinner at the Terazza Celè restaurant.
