We spent here just one night and we didn't try the restaurant. We paid 93 eur for a quite normal room, with a good bathroom. It faced the street so it could be noisy at times. I found it very expensive for what it was (you could perfectly hear people in other bedrooms and it was old style, 70s, so perfect for older people, but maybe not our cup of tea, for that price). The terrace in the restaurant has the best view in town, and if you get a room facing the lake I would have happily paid those 93. It's super close to the ferry station, within walking distance.

Spent two nights at the hotel in mid September 2017. The rooms were very expensive for what you get as it felt like the rooms were stuck in the 1980s. The breakfast in the morning was very limited and disappointing - the main waitress was rude and had a face like thunder both morning when any guests asked her a question. None of the staff in the hotel seemed happy barring the young woman on the front desk who checked us in.

Parking infront of the hotel is limited to approx 12 spaces and we had to pay 10 Euros per day to stay in an underground car park opposite the hotel.

Booked into this hotel through Inghams. The room was fairly spacious and the views from Balcony were absolutely stunning. There was no variety of cold meat at breakfast. That was fine for a few days but would have been nice to have had a change as we had a 10 day stay. The waiting staff were friendly but the service was very, very slow. It was known for a few people to walk out as they were fed up waiting for their food. Sometimes guests orders got a bit mixed up as well. When you were having dinner you were given a menu for the next evening and you had to tick what you wanted so I don't see why the service was so slow. I didn't really enjoy the meals too much and I wasn't the only one although my friend enjoyed his. There was one girl receptionist who was really very helpful, even showing us on "street view" where it was we wanted to go. She gave us lots of advice on places to visit. The manager was always so grumpy looking I wouldn't dared have asked him anything. Certainly not a good advert for the hotel. The rooms were always spotless and we had a great power shower. The room maids were very pleasant. In all, apart from the dining room and the grumpy manager this was a nice enough Hotel.

Booked through TUi and spent the third week of September here. We'd had a fantastic time in Limone at Lake Garda last year and this seemed the logical follow up. The town of Menaggio was dead with very little to do in the evenings and on two evenings we were told we had to leave the bar at the Hotel de Luc at 9.30 because they were closing early! So if you're planning a trip to Lake Como, Menaggio is probably not the best option. Veranna or Bellagio may be better. Having said that, Lake Como is beautiful and there was plenty to see and do during the day. Lots of villas and beautiful gardens as well as excursions to other lakes in the area that were well worthwhile. If you're UK National Trust members you can get discount at some villas on presentation of your membership card. We also did the excusion to St Moritz which although the scenery enroute was great the town was souless and full of expensive designer shops and very few people. Also the much hyped train trip to St Moritz fell way below expectations. We'd booked a balcony room overlooking the lake expecting to be able to relax on the balcony and view the lake, as you would. It turned out that you would have to be 9 feet tall to see the lake over the wall whilst seated. So felt cheated on that. The rooms were clean and adequate but fairly basic and dated. The cleaning lady was friendly and welcoming as were one or two of the ladies on the front counter, but the management was unfriendly and abrupt to the point of being rude. The real joke though was the dining room. The food was generally poor and some of the serving staff rude. We'd chosen half board. Breakfast was bland and unappetising. Some dinner meals were okay but you got the impression that you were a nuisance and not really welcome. This made some sense when we complained to the TUi rep who said that the resaurant had recently been sold off and was no longer owned by the hotel. Obviously the new owners resented having to fulfill the contracted obligations and apparently were offering a EU15 discount if you ate in the restaurant proper. On our return one of our party complained and TUi offered some compensation against a future trip.

Room tip: Request a room with balcony with lake views when seated :)

We stayed here with TUI, a few positives; great lake view and location, nice town with plenty going on and the bus and ferries stop close by so you can get about. One member of staff was welcoming and the housekeepers were friendly and do a great job.

The negatives far outweigh that though.
Thoroughly miserable, scowling management.
Shambolic, miserable waiting staff.
Diabolically awful food if on half board, and you have to order a day ahead
Worn out and dated furnishings and fittings
Same breakfast every day, with the same reconstituted lurid juice drink
Air con that hardly made any difference
The list goes on, pretty much same as other comments

Fortunately TUI were very understanding and handled our feedback well, but I hope they abandon this awful place next season, and would suggest that anyone thinking of staying there does the same!

Room tip: Avoid if you can, otherwise get a lake view
