The budget-friendly and logical way to see the churches of Erice that charge an admission fee is to buy the MEMS ticket. It's 5 euros to gain admission to five exquisite churches that would otherwise cost 2 euros each to enter. I bought my MEMS ticket at the first stop -- the spectacular Royal Cathedral and King Frederick's Tower. I also bought an excellent guidebook in English, "A Friendly Walk Around Erice," for 1 euro, an incredible bargain for a map and detailed descriptions and photos of 19 churches and other attractions in Erice. Even with the map, you might get a little confused, but it's fun to wander around Erice's tiny streets. If I recall correctly, I had difficulty finding the entrance to San Giuliano. You have to walk to the right of the main entrance and then keep walking past the next door, which is locked, to get to the open door. I spent a lovely day in Erice, even though it was raining and chilly. I also viewed other churches and attractions that were open (and don't charge a fee), and took time out for lunch.
