The Happy Jackal is a great place for groups or couples. Very clean and comfortable with ample space. The hosts are amazing. Very friendly, helpful and entertaining. The Guest House is close to Addo National Park and other facilities. We needed some special assistance while there and our hosts were right there to help. The breakfasts are fantastic with fresh homemade bread and jams and a hot cooked brekky. Thanks from all eleven of us crazy Aussies.

Room Tip: Cottage and adjacent room great for family or groups. Main building looking over the river is perfect for couples.

The Happy Jackal is a great little place to reside on your safari leg of the garden route. We enjoyed our stay here because:

-The breakfast was great, with freshly baked bread and a lovely array of homemade jams. Full English brekkie too!
-There's comfy social areas inside the hotel, and a nice river out back where you can chill and enjoy the peace and quiet
-There's a small warm pool area with sun loungers, and separate wifi which picks up a great signal (as seen inside also)
-The place now offers game drives and tours (although we'd booked others separately in advance so didn't experience these).

A great place to stay – thank you!

Happy Jackal exceeded our expectations so much. Delightful owners Peter and Liz welcomed us with open arms. Our room was enormous and felt like a safari lodge with its thatched roof. All the facilities were first class. We did a private safari tour of Addo Elephant Park direct with the guest house - our guide Sean was amazing! Also - this was the first heated swimming pool we had come across on our travels!! Lovely owners and staff and a great location at a very fair price ... what more could yo ask for!

Sorry it's taken me so long to review (stayed June 2017)

My parents live in Cape Town and I live in England and whilst on a visit with them last year we opted to stay here.

Unsure what to expect as it was new and we usually pick a hotel over guest houses but it was fabulous. Beautifully decorated and wonderful hosts! So kind and generous. Genuinely cared how we were and what we were up to. We swapped stories about our families and about their kids over breakfast (a fabulously cooked breakfast a long with fruit and yogurt and wonderful teas and coffee).

We were lucky enough to be the only guests at the time (assuming this is because it was their winter Months) so they upgraded us to have our own rooms - ensuite with tvs and fridges and a beautiful view out to the river.

It was chilly at night so they provided heaters as well as electric blankets which made it unbelievably cozy.

They were incredible hosts and we felt absolutely doted on. Would 100% recommend. So close to Schotia Private Game Reserve.

We asked for a few recommendations on where to go and where to eat and our hosts couldn't have been more helpful. They have definitely found their calling in running this business - it was a such a wonderful experience, we will be back!

Impressive guest house overlooking the river and very close to Addo. Friendly helpful staff, very comfortable room - we were in the main house room 5. Exceptional breakfast. The interior decor is stunning. Would highly recommend as it is good value for money.
