“Shabby Chic”

This is very much an individual's choice of what makes them happy when self-catering. The grounds are lovely - you are in the cottage next to a very beautiful old house with stunning gardens, a pool and a lake. However, the big house is clearly of a much higher standard than the cottage, which is quite frankly, run down. Shabby chic, but the emphasis at the moment is on the shabby. The kitchen was adequately equipped, but they need more glasses, a new teapot (the current one is cracked) and a spruce up. I took down the 2008 calendar on the wall, but didn't throw out all the very out of date tourist leaflets. The interior of the cottage is decorated with pretty pieces of antique furniture but the rooms are crowded and in need of fresh paint and a clear out. The bathroom is only just OK. An antique sink has a curious way of being emptied and free standing bath has a shower you hold with your hand and there is a bit of a battle to be had with wet shower curtains, holding the shower head and then stepping out of a high bath tub. I really think they should not try to let the cottage for more than a couple. They could then take out the bed which is in the sitting room which would look more attractive and make the whole place more comfortable.

The owner and his housekeeper were charming and when the loo broke it was mended straightaway.

The cottage is sweet and very peaceful - a lovely place to unwind and near lots of interesting places. We greatly enjoyed our week and although I sound critical this is because the cottage has greater potential than is being reached at present. I would enthusiastically recommend it if it was given a bit of a makeover.

“"Kingly" vacation of my life”
Reviewed 30 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Best place to go for vacation in this 16th century estate in Loire Valley, France. Nine of us stayed in this beautiful chateaux amongst beautiful lake, swans, peacocks, funny dog Gigi, delectable French cuisine, fall weather and wonderful caretakers Marie Froncoise, Pierre & Alexandre. A must place to enjoy the beautiful French countryside, visit historic castles and drink the best wines on the planet! Make sure you bike into the town of Boulet and go rowing on the property lake. We also saw deers running around! Cannot wait to be back! Merci Mr Voulet who owns the property and unfortunate we didn't meet him! A Bientot!
