As we found out when we arrived, the Marche is a relatively unvisited region of Italy, but very beautiful and unspoilt with high grass topped mountains, deep unspoilt valleys and medieval towns and villages. There is lots to do: mountains to climb and caves to enter (Natural Park of Monte Cucco), towns like Gubio (our favourite), Urbino, Perugia and Arezzo to visit, and lots of villages with cafes and restaurants to eat in.
Volti di Pietra is a great base for such a visit. The rooms are large and personal, decorated with great taste. There is a also a large lounge with coffee and cakes. The cakes are wonderful and varied and change every day. A real treat at breakfast.
Serena Canu and her partner are very welcoming and helpful, showing places to go on a map and advice about how to get places.
