“Beautiful area of France”

We were a group of six, (including my two small children and parents) and spent 8 days at the property. We are new to rural France, having previously just visited touristy places in Paris and only spoke a handful of French.
The house itself is located in the centre of cazouls les Beziers; a beautiful little village about 20 mins from Beziers. It was also about 20 mins drive from the airport and we found it easy enough with Sat Nav.
The village itself has a little grocery store and fruit/veg/meat/cheese shop in the main square and about 3 bakeries all selling the most amazing breads and pastries (we ate our own weight in dried meats, breads, cheese and pain au chocolates!) There are 2 large supermarkets and a petrol station on a 5 min drive heading back to Beziers. It also has a little tourist office with helpful staff and a restaurant which is owned by a very nice couple; we had an amusing evening of trying to order with only a handful of French and them a handful of English but still having a laugh.
The house itself is in the old bit of the village just off the main square and the parking is on the street. We hired a 7 seater car to fit us all in, and as such parking was an issue in the narrow streets. In the end we found a designated parking area about 5 mins walk from the house with the help of the lady from the tourism office.
The house is in a lovely traditional style, spread over three floors; two double rooms both with an en suite and a room with 2 single beds and a bathroom located down the hall. Upstairs is the living area, kitchen and an outside balcony. Everything has been done up to a high standard and it was great to have a few little touches like the English TV stations and the wi fi. I think my girls watched the Mama Mia DVD about 10 times. In the centre there is a traditional staircase, so you will need to be able to get up and down stairs for this property.
We found it a great base and had plenty to do over the week. We explored Beziers, visited the cathedral and the canal du midi, spent a day at the beach, and other days visiting Pezenas, Carcassone, Roquebrun, and the Pont du Gard which was about a 90 min drive. We also visited local wineries (which are everywhere) and it was interesting to see the chateaus they live in, and drank plenty of excellent (and cheap) wine. Predictably the food and wine was excellent. Besides that we wandered through a couple of villages along the canal and had dinner besides the water in one which I can't remember the name. We also ate in an excellent and reasonably priced restaurant in Beziers called Les Enfants Terribles - all restuarants usually need reservations.
We went to the beach on one occasion (which my girls loved) but I preferred the fresh water swimming areas in the river at Roquebrun, and the also swam in a lake near Carcassone where we had a picnic one day. Check if fresh water swimming is available outside of summer.
We really enjoyed the holiday and there was plenty more we could have done - I was considering taking the girls to a water theme park. I called the owner of the property a couple of times and so found that someone was always around to ask for advice if needed. All in all a great holiday staying in a traditional village setting full of charm and character.

We always use Trip Advisor when looking for hotel or other accommodation. There was no review for this property but it was in the area we wanted to stay in so we decided to take a chance.

Directions to the property - the owners sent excellent directions to the property. We had no problem finding it.

Accommodation - it was more like stepping into someone's well fitted out French home than some sparsely equipped holiday let. There was even a diswasher and washing machine. There were 2 double bedrooms, and a bedroom with two single beds. Each double room had an excellent beautifully tiled ensuite shower room with toilet and wash basin. There was a further lovely bathroom with shower over the bath.

The kitchen area (on the second floor) was well kitted out and it was easy to move food, etc., out to the terrace as it was on the same level.

The house would be ideal for a family, or two or three couples, as there is adequate space. The house has been built on 3 floors and has tiled spiral staircases which could mean that people with limited mobility may find it difficult to get up or down stairs.

The village - as this is a traditional old French village the streets are often narrow. There was no parking outside the house as the street was so narrow but there was parking just around the corner, less than a minute's walk away. We did not use the 2 local restaurants but we did go to the excellent boulangerie/patisserie on the main street. Just outside the village are 2 supermarkets, one of which is a large Carrefour.

The area - Cazouls-les-Beziers is well located for trips to Carcasonne, Narbonne, Beziers, and Montpellier. Maybe our favourite was Pezenas which was about 20 miles away. Some of the bigger towns and cities were not too easy to navigate around for a first timer to the area. However, there are lots of one way streets to keep the traffic moving so there was little congestion. We also went a few miles north out of Cazouls-les-Beziers to visit the lovely old villages of Cessenon-sur-Orb and Roquebrun. We had lunch one day at Colombiers on the beautiful Canal du Midi.

Beach - we did not visit all of the beaches in the area but of those we did go to we thought the best was at Serignan Plage, which also happens to be the nearest one to Cazouls-les-Beziers. It was about a 35 minute leisurely drive to get there.

Summary - we were well pleased with our choice of property to stay in and also really enjoyed the area around. Both highly recommended.
