In the town center, inside the middle age castle. Great choice of wines. Perfect for a special occasion!

Whenever I go to a large dinner in the UK, I rarely look forward to it due to the meagre standards of catering inflicted on us. Italy is another standard altogether and this venue exceeded by already high expectations although they were feeding 90 of us. The standard of service remained intimate, flexible and friendly from the staff right though to the management.
This is a popular wedding destination, and given the castle location and the grounds you can understand why. I spoke to guests on the evening who have been here both for weddings and in the restaurant, and they confirmed that the quality does not slack. I'll have to come back as a restaurant diner!

We've been here for a lunch on Monday, we were about 17 people...It was a complete disappointment.

Upon arrival, they have divided us in 2 tables because one was too large. I think they should have advised us at the reservation time but - at the end - they managed to merge the 2 tables together even if one of the waiter was very angry and disappointed about that.

The appetizer was good.
The main course was definitely below the quality you expect on exclusive place like these. I think they were not handmade...and if they were, they should consider to change recipe. Definitively too much butter.

Here it comes the surprise...we had a second course with 3 choices: meat or vegetarian.
The meat was absolutely of low quality and - moreover - there was no difference between blood, medium or well done! Finally...they gave us the oil in a "can"...what? In a can?

...but the problem was the vegetarian "pie". That was barely eatable...I should say not eatable. 6 out of 7 people did not eat more than a bite...and the 7th one finished it only because she was very very hungry.

The dessert was a cream and strawberry pie made by them. It was not bad...but neither good. Once more time below the expectation when you eat in places like these.

Surely, It would have been all good for an average restaurant...but when you have such prices you must have higher quality.

I discovered this place last year through a chance conversation with a local in Maranello. That first visit was on a summer evening when the ourside terrace was open and the place was buzzing with people having drinks. My recollections of that meal were very positive so I returned in December this year and I discovered it is even better than I remembered it!
With the restaurant located in an impressive castle you cannot fail to be impressed when you first enter. The decor in the dining room is simple and simpathetic with the setting. As for the food, there is a mouthwatering selection in each of the courses. Whilst the number of dishes is limited (as it should be in my view) there is great variety in the ingredients used and it is evident that everything is freshly prepared from excellent produce.
There is an extensive wine list but we requested a locally produced red and were offered a choice of two, one of which was Lambrusco. Now as a Brit my expectation was low given the quality and reputation of the Lambrusco that finds it's way to the UK. But what a revelation: it was delicious!
The service was very good and the proprietor is friendly and clearly passionate about his restaurant. Finally it is also phenominally good value for money for food and wine of this quality.
If you're in the area it's a must-try.

It is located in a middle age castle, with a very good choice of gourmet food, and an outstanding selection of wines and champagnes. There are two separated places, the restaurant and the bar inside the castle. I believe to have dinner there is a must.
