Wondo Genet is well-worth a visit, especially if you like wildlife.

The hotel has beautiful gardens, teeming with birdlife. If you want to do some intensive birding in the surrounding forest, look out for bird guides who might be hanging around by the hotel entrance. You can book a day of guided birding for 400 birr (great value).

The rooms were small and outdated, seemed overpriced but the gardens and surrounding area made up for it.

There is lots of hot water (it comes straight from the hot springs) and your hotel price includes admission to the hot-springs / swimming pool.

The restaurant / bar area is architecturally disastrous.

Staff were friendly, although a couple of them came and peered/waved at me through my room window, which I found a bit off-putting.

Lovely shady gardens full of bird life and monkeys but very ordinary rooms in need of some upgrading and the most bizarre dining and bar area building which is pretty grim. Western food uninteresting but local injera dishes excellent.

This hotel is in lovely grounds, with masses of birds, and two types of monkey roaming around. But the accommodation is basic and rather tired. A comfortable bed, and plenty of hot water, though. Their prices for an extra teabag (£3) and a packed lunch which was just a cheese sandwich were far too high.

The bathrooms weren't very clean (for anyone in our group) & mgmt wasn't responsive when people asked to have them cleaned.

However the grounds were gorgeous - trees in bloom, lots of birds and monkeys. The restaurant was really oddly shaped, but had a rooftop viewing area.
