Pigna is an extremely unusual and beautiful place to stay. This house was a great base, it was like living in a home and the welcome basket on arrival was really appreciated, as was the cleanliness of the house. I appreciated having a good settee and chairs to sit in, so often it's a an uncomfortable old put you up in rented accommodation. The views and sounds from the top floor are heaven. The information provided in the house was great. In fact, there was nothing to fault.

“Perfetto Pigna!”
Reviewed 27 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Absolutely stunning location, gorgeous town house and the owners really have thought of everything. Exceptionally clean, all the amenities you could possibly need and plenty of friendly people in the town and surrounding areas. My husband and I had an unforgettable stay here at the start of August and we will definitely return! The location is perfect for exploring the Italian - and French - riviera!

BTW No hiking experience needed, unless you do actually believe a few steps here and there to be 'hardened hiker' terrain (sorry to quote a misleading previous review, but I loved this place and can't understand why someone would have written that!)

“Great place for a day trip, terrible for a stay!”

Casa Pigna was not what we expected at all and with the exception of Georgia, who was very kind, most of our communications with the owners were very unsatisfactory. This is a completely inaccessible property for anyone other than hardened hikers. It is perched in the upper echelons of the slowly dying town amongst several empty buildings. There is no vehicle access and the parking that is 100 mtrs away has a half hour limit, after that you have to park in the lower town and complete a gruelling and steep climb to get home. The house is very clean but not at all spacious. The steps leading up to the door are dangerous, the kitchen diner is not badly equipped but very small. The bedroom on the second floor is much smaller than it looks in the pictures, with the pull out bed unfolded there would be no space to move at all, it looks straight in to the window of an abandoned building opposite. The master bedroom is not too bad in size but it is oddly furnished, the bed is lumpy and the WiFi connection doesn't reach up there. The tip room has character but it was killingly hot so we could barely use it, the sofa bed up there has seen much better days... The view from the top is quite lovely if you don't look at the buildings opposite! There was no air-conditioning installed, just a portable unit which was not initially set up for us,and proved not very effective. The stairs between floors are very very deep and difficult go climb. The road into pigna is also quite frightening to drive. We found the whole experience quite exhausting and left 3 days earlier than we intended. At that point we found the owners quite uncommunicative. Think carefully before booking this place.

I don't know what I was thinking renting this unit. On arrival it was clear that the photos are specifically done to make the rooms look bigger.

The air conditioning is non existant and then upon complaint, a portable unit was provided. The stairs are epic, if you gave any issue with knees or legs you will be very uncomfortable staying here, as there are four levels of these very pitched stairs . Photo attached.

There was no sunlight except on the top level due to an abandoned building in front. It is hot and airless.

There are no restaurants in old Pigna where this apartment is located, in fact, you will need to walk down a cliff to the new quarter where there is one Pizzeria. The town closes at 10pm on weekends. The church bells chime every hour though the night.

We were miserable. We left early, leaving 3 days rental behind, and headed back to the coast where we the locals far more friendly and welcoming. Look at rentals in San Remo or Menton and save your holiday.

We regret that Ms MacDougall was not enamoured to the many charms of Pigna and our house as all our past guests over ten years have been. The two top floors are south-facing and have the sun all day and people are always very impressed by the stunning views. There had been no communication regarding the issue of her friend’s mobility before or after booking. All amenities within Pigna are within a 10/15 minute walk. There are 4 bars and 5 eateries in the town. The old town is on a hill not a ‘cliff’. In the summer the bars are open late - indeed one, The Villa stays open until 4am. We have had guests who have stayed here and found the people so welcoming and the location so beautiful that they have bought places here themselves.
It is regrettable that Ms MacDougall did not have a positive experience and we hope in future that she does some more research before booking a holiday.
