Im not sure what we were expecting, but it felt far away from the city.

Miles of parkland with woods and fields and even some exquisite gardens. And deer. Not shy as they have gotten used to the idea that people dont shoot them. You look at them, they stare back at you. Its great.

Its free and beautiful. The further in you walk, the less people there are, through attrition, and you will find yourself in distinctly English tamed wilderness.

Its preservation is a testament to London's wisdom.

Go.

The highlight of Richmond is the large park, many paths inside including deer. A beautiful place to visit anytime of the year

A great place to spend a few hours walking. The Isabella plantation has a wonderful collection of flowers in the spring and there are herds of Fallow and Red deer.

Ah I love Richmond Park and it's on my doorstep which means I can wander in here at my leisure. Why do I love it? Despite the steady stream of cyclists and cars moving through it and the occasional roar of Heathrow-bound planes overhead, it's so vast that it's possible to lose other people and find yourself thrillingly alone. Just for a minute you can pretend you're not really in London at all but in open countryside. The presence of the parl's famous deer herds (it's never possible to predict where they'll be) adds to this impression. What makes Richmond Park really special is King Henry's Mound - there is an amazing view across to St Paul's cathedral but also across towards Windsor and Runnymede and the tree-rich land spreading away in front of you can be impossibly beautiful. There's also Pembroke Lodge if you fancy a traditional cream tea and plentiful free public toilets. Richmond Park is so big you can get to it from Richmond itself (a lovely walk up Richmond Hill), Kingston, Roehampton, Ham Common, Wimbledon and New Malden.

We were looking for somewhere different to go out on a cycle and this came up 45 minutes drive away.
Easily parked up and then using one of the routes off the website we did a 13 mile ride.
The maps from the official website are brilliant with just the right amount of detail and easy to understand.
The park was beautiful, loads of deer were roaming around. There were a lot of cyclists (most totally ignoring the speed limits it has to said!).
Nice views of the London skyline in the distance and the view from King Henry's mound of St Pauls was cool as well.
Cafes reasonably priced with delicious ice creams, we will definitely return

Thank John P
