It's been many years since I last visited the island and it was sad to see that Sandown has become such a 'tired' place. It has a great location but shops and hotels alike all seem so dated. It's a real shame as many of the people working there provide really decent service and could do with their town being less '1970's' in look and feel.
The hotel is a hotchpotch of a number of buildings all connected by various corridors and stairs. It's like a warren inside but is actually very roomy. We didn't use the lifts but some in our party commented that anyone needing them could struggle from the ground floor. Service at reception is good and helpful and the hotel provides what it needs to.
The dining room is large and bright, snooker and pool rooms excellent as is the hotel bar. Yes, it also has that slightly 'dated' feel about it as does the town but it's not a case of being unpleasant.
The room was small, the two single beds so close together that they were touching with no space to comfortably walk around them. There is no air con and on a hot night in July the only option was to sleep with the patio doors open overlooking the sea. The bathroom had a shower over bath connected to the bath taps so it had no power. There was also no shower curtain and the bathroom had a carpet which was unpleasant to walk on when damp. The beds were really soft so be warned about that. If you have back issues (as I do), sleeping could be a challenge.
Breakfast was interesting in that everything was small. The fruit juice was barely a sip as was the fruit option. Cereal was a decent size to be fair but the English breakfast was tiny. On both days, our party found themselves eating again less than an hour after breakfast.
The jacuzzi was broken during our visit so cannot comment. The pool was good but the water wasn't warm. Also there was no changing area in the pool room but there was a decent single shower to wash off afterwards.
Would I stay here again? The location, right on the beachfront, makes it a strong possibility. Car parking is first come first served and the traffic warden was very keen on the Sunday morning, ticketing 3 cars just after 10am.
I didn't mind the dated decor as it was in keeping with the town. I guess I'd like everything about Sandown to be modernised. It's such a nice location and a real shame that it's not being kept uptodate.

This is rather old fashioned British hotel, the check-in wasn't too great and very slow. And information was not completely accurate, the breakfast is a bit pricy for what you get however the staff after the reception is very friendly and helpful.
The food very basic and they can do much better especially at that price.

The hotel is a Maze of going up and down stairs and through many fire doors which is a little off putting. maybe they should consider having automatic magnet system to keep doors open during the day and automatically closing for the night as some doors are not only heavy but also difficult to open.

After all that the location is fantastic, cross the little oneway road and your on the beach.
The rooms are spacious clean and very comfortable, bath room also impressive seems they have had a total refurbishment and very stylish compared to the dated building in general.
I high recommend a sea front room because not only you get a balcony but the views are amazing.
All in all it was a pleasant stay in this hotel and would return.

We have just returned from staying for a long weekend at this hotel for my nans 80th birthday. What a lovely place. Rooms were lovely and clean and the bathrooms look like they have been recently refurbished. Fantastic food on offer for dinner and breakfast and there's a swimming pool, albeit a little cold but the children loved it! There's also a jacuzzi and sauna available. Excellent location right across the road from the beach and the pier with the arcades just a short walk away. The staff couldn't be more helpful and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable even putting balloons and banners that we bought with us on the table for my nan.
Only 2 things that would has stopped me giving my stay 5 stars. I think breakfast should be buffet style though there's plenty on offer and delicious it would save the staff being so busy. Also a lift from reception would be great but this didn't spoil our holiday and we would definitely return again.

Stayed here 18th to 22nd of July and it has to be one of the best hotels i have stopped at.Food was excellent and the staff were very good.I had room 39 which was quite a large room with double bed and ensuite shower. Okay it was facing the high street and was noisy but after so much walking in the hot weather i slept alright. Maids came round daily and topped up the tea and coffee and offered towels . Originally we were booked at another hotel but had to stop here and glad we did-there is even a balcony for people who want to smoke and enjoy a pint.So thank you Sandringham I will return next year

Really unusual hotel, somehow we still liked it in the end.
Pros: great location, beautiful view of the sea from the sea view room on the 1st floor, small but comfy room, brand new and clean bathroom with shower, friendly waiters, tasty breakfast (you better be prepared to eat something shortly afterwards though).
Cons: loads of stairs to take from reception even just to the lift, then on each floor as well so uncomfortable for the elderly family member. Balconies of a few rooms are connected, so no sense of privacy plus did not feel comfortable leaving the balcony door open at night to get some air, room was very stuffy and humid, no aircon. Tiny portions of breakfast (orange juice in a shotglass, one egg, an inch long piece of sausage, tiny strip of bacon). No changing rooms or toilets by the pool, water freezing cold, jacuzzi broken so just a pool with warmer water, sauna is only free 5-6.30pm otherwise you need to book and pay extra.

30 year old decor in common areas, which we found funny and actually enjoyed.
If you need a cheaper hotel as a base for trips on the island and do not care much about the hotel amenities as long as it is decent and clean, this is perfect.
