Owner description: Castle Rushen is one of the world’s most finely preserved medieval castles and can be found in the Isle of Man's former capital, Castletown. Once a royal palace, Castle Rushen was home to the Kings and Lords of Mann, with the Castle’s oldest part dating back to the time of Magnus, last Norse King of Mann. Later on, Castle Rushen served as an administrative centre, a mint, a law court and for over 100 years until the late 19th Century, as a prison. Today, spectacular displays illustrate the Castle at various times in history, with figures in period costume, historical furnishings and wall hangings, realistic food, contemporary music and medieval speech brining the Castle’s medieval and 17th Century periods to life. Also nearby in Castletown, you can also enjoy the Old House of Keys, the Nautical Museum and The Old Grammar School, whilst only a short drive away, the ancient ruins of Rushen Abbey can also be enjoyed.

You just need to go. Fantastic and gives you an amazing feel of what it was like 100s of years ago. Great to view Manx heritage.

Pleased we stopped off in Castletown to visit the castle. Lots of atmosphere and the exhibition gives a good account of what the castle has been like through the ages. Very friendly staff and the view from the roof excellent. Well worth the visit.

It is a while since we last visited the castle and I wasn't that bothered about going back BUT how wrong I was. It was a terrible day with wind blowing the rain with a vengence (late summer !!!!) but the welcome at the castle was both warm and hearty. All the staff we met were fantastic.
The "welcome" film was informative and enjoyable. The castle is bursting with displays and information boards.
The view from the roof is spectacular and wett worth being windswept.
I'm glad I went back
