Great location lovely and quiet but only a 6 minute walk to quayside where you will find a choice of pubs and restaurants, Tesco's 10 minute walk or couple of minutes in the car so very convenient for all your holiday requirements. Ravenscliffe Lodge oozes charm from the moment you enter through the impressive automatic gates making your way down a pretty driveway to reach the house, before entering the house I had the usual dread of opening the door wondering what I would find. As on closer inspection standing outside the house it was obvious that it had maintainance issues and would benefit from some TLC, but this property is huge and I appreciate it would be a full time job to keep this house in order. So upon entering I was pleasantly surprised by lovely large light bright hallway that draws you towards another great room, the lounge a very pleasant space with wonderful views of harbour. The kitchen is another big room , I feel this room would benefit from a refit, it does have everything that you require but all a bit basic, especially if you do actually want to cook. And the oven definitely needs attention as it's extremely noisy!
Upstairs there was a wonderful master suite tastefully finished, with a large en suite, this is definitely the best room in the house. The second bedroom is adequate, it does the job, there are twin beds pushed together in this room which is probably the best layout as it allows more room to navigate around the sides of the room. The beds in this room I feel need to be upgraded, just turning over was quite a noisy episode bedstead creaking and headboard banging as it was not sufficiently fixed on, mattress was slightly lumpy and a bit sharp in places. Second bathroom was also adequate, equipped with a bath only it was very compact, and lacked a standard of finish.
To summarise Ravenscliffe has a lovely homely feel, it is a very shabby chic house that speaks of it's grander days but has fallen on somewhat harder times, but you can't help being charmed by this lovable old lady who is just too expensive to keep in the style she's become accustomed to.
We had a great week here, the island like the house is charming and unspoilt !
My critique is hopefully informative , not complaining! We loved this house, and we would undoubtedly return to holiday in Ravenscliffe Lodge. Thank you David and Elaine for the well thought out grocery pack provided, if you were travel weary then you could manage quite easily on the supplies that were left until the following morning
We spent a week at Ravencliffe back in May. My parents had stayed there a few years back and wanted to return, so we all went together.
You see Ravencliffe clearly from the ferry as you approach Douglas Harbour, its an outstandingly beautiful detached home.
The house is two minutes drive from the harbour. It has electric gates, that are the entrance to a beautiful garden that is absolutely stunning. There is a car port to park up.
The grounds are stunning, there is plenty of seating outside if you want to bbq. And the owners chickens run freely, which is great fun.
The house is great. An entrance hall. Plenty of space. A large kitchen, equipped with every thing you need. The living room is lovely, it has the most amazing views over Douglas Harbour. Plenty of seating, possibly some furniture could do with replacing, such a sofas.
Bedrooms are stunning. Huge bedroom at front, absolutely amazing views. Lovely comfortable bed, beautiful bedding and a great on-suite bathroom.
Back bedroom, lovely, comfortable and has everything you need. Family bathroom on landing. Only has bath, no shower.
I can honestly say that this was one of my favourite holidays I have been on. After a day out seeing the Island, you knew you were coming back to home comfort.
Douglas town is walking distance. There are a few nice restaurants and bars around the harbour. And Tesco is only five minutes drive away.
I would most definitely return.
The accommodation is excellent,. Rooms are huge and just like the photos. I especially loved the kitchen. Well equipped with everything you could possibly want. Great views of the harbour and just a short walk away from amenities. Unfortunately the weather wasn't particularly kind the four days we stayed - and we ended up using the car most of the time. I would have no problem recommending this apartment and if I ever return to the Isle of Man I will first look at booking here.
I travel to Douglas regularly for business and my stays are several weeks duration so i look for accommodations which are home away from home.
I had not been to the lodge before but having read the reviews and finding that the dates i needed were available I secured a reservation.
After an overnight flight with a long layover I was anxious to get to my final destination and get settled in. My hosts were out when i arrived but had left a lovely note and a basket of goodies to welcome me to the "lodge"
I have to say when i walked in I was not prepared for this incredible accommodation! On the main floor i found a huge well equipped kitchen and spacious reception hall which led to the lounge. The lounge, absolutely stunning views of Douglas and the sea and a massive stone fireplace and comfy furnishings, TV and table for dining.
Upstairs I found 2 bedrooms, 1 with 2 single beds overlooking the courtyard and a bathroom, then on to the master bedroom which is .just incredible !
Huge very comfy bed with superb linens, a lovely sofa and TV area, 2 massive windows with the same view over the water as from the lounge; and a wonderful ensuite bathroom.
The property is beautifully landscaped and well cared for by the hosts who are onsite and is just a short walk into Douglas. I found it to be warm and toasty even in the cooler weather.
This accommodation is truly a gem and my only regret is that i had not found it before The hosts are very kind and gracious and have taken time to provide all conveniences to ensure their guests have a memorable and wonderful stay.
I truly cannot say enough about Ravenscliffe Lodge
