I stopped at the campsite up the road and came here for breakfast twice, and for a beer one evening. Each of the three visits were excellent. Breakfast is open to non-residents and is great value. The fried breakfast is huge and you do not need to eat again all day if you finish it! The pint of real ale I had one evening was also well kept. I did not eat in the evenings but the menus looked good and I would eat there if I went back. The staff were all really friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Back again at The Three Horse Shoes at Maiden Law for lunch. This is our regular and favourite haunt because the food is always amazing and the staff are fantastic. My blonde haired landlady couldn't be more friendly or more helpful. The landlord is extremely amiable and again so helpful. Nothing is a bother to these two, and the way they look after my 86 year old mam is trully exceptional. I think Sarah H has been somewhere totally different to put a review so scathing and clearly unfair. You will go a long way to find a more friendly and caring place to eat.

Negative first. Nothing in walking distance in fact no safe path to walk on at all as only main road in and out. That's it nothing else as once you're in there's no need to go elsewhere. If you do then it's only a short taxi ride about £8 into Durham. Now here's the plus points. Food OMG such an extensive menu that it so hard to pick but it doesn't really matter as all choices are amazing. Drinks maybe needed more spirit selection but sometimes less means you try something you've never tried before and the 3 horseshoe ale was just the ticket and the gins selection (if you like it) and the product knowledge given by the staff then you can't go wrong. Now on to the service superb superb superb they just can't don't enough for you nothing is too much trouble. If it's not on the menu and they have the ingredients then they will make it for you. Rooms are more than comfortable with free bottled water and more than enough condiments for any taste. Last this place is all about quality right from its beginning of it's products through to the attentive and I can't do enough for you staff just yes yes yes... we will be back very soon
