What a great experience!
The street outside was undergoing some work but based on the reviews no doubt in my mind about paying a visit.
Great welcome from Adam and couldn’t ask for more.
Lovely authentic cuisine cooked by the family and spice level to your liking!
Lamb balti with coriander rice and proper substantial tarka Dahl the best I’ve had
Good crowd good choice of tunes!

Last visit was before lockdown and the food, atmosphere and service was outstanding. Last night by contrast was disappointing. The welcome was one of disdain or perhaps mild inconvenience. The table wasn't set. Instead two side plates stacked with cutlery and napkins were placed unceremoniously on the table and pushed towards us. We were sitting for sometime and eventually had to ask if we could order (surprising in a restaurant which was only half full). The food was good. The plates were only half cleared, the waiter walked off to do something else before returning. I am certain of one thing the service and atmosphere have deteriorated. For a long established and well regarded restaurant this visit was hugely disappointing.

Was it the chef's night off?
The most disappointing curry experience in over forty years.
Apart from the wobbly tables and most underwhelming greeting, the food was pretty poor.
My balti chicken & keema contained pieces of hard rubbery chicken (?), but also some properly cooked ones. Some had a gritty texture. Not at all sure what I was supposed to be eating! Paratha was very small and oily...not flaky as described in the menu. Waiter wanted to clear plates when we were still eating, and then ignored the dirty plates when we had finished.
A bizarre experience which belies the other reviews left for this restaurant

Fresh, well-seasoned, very tasty Indian food at a reasonable price. It's a family-run operation; we had fine personal service from the manager. The interior isn't fancy--I assume it caters to students during the school year--but it was clean and comfortable. A little off the beaten path, but just around the corner from the cathedral, so it's convenient for tourists. By all means give it a try.

We received a warm welcome on a busy Saturday evening. Service was very good with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Food was excellent. The restaurant had been refurbished since my last visit & was very smart & clean. Highly recommend.
