Booked a table for 3 to celebrate my daughters birthday. We ordered a chilly garlic bread and calamari to start .... my clalmari starter at just shirt of £7 was very small but the girls enjoyed their garlic bread
For mains I ordered the steak blue cheese and red onion pizza and the girls ordered fish and chips

They both enjoyed theirs but one did find bones in her fish which put her off finishing it. My pizza had way too much Blue cheese on it and it made it too stodgy and their was very little steak on it

Was ok but won’t be rushing back

My husband and I visited this restaurant recently in the evening and we were unsure of what to expect after reading the reviews. When we arrived, we were quickly seated and our drinks order was taken. The first drinks took a while to arrive but service with the food was prompt which reassured us. When we had finished our starters, our mains quickly followed and waiting staff were attentive and asked if everything was ok with the food. The food itself was lovely and we could not complain about that aspect of the visit. Whilst eating, we ordered 2 more drinks, however these took over 30 minutes to arrive. My husband queried this with the staff at the bar, and who we assume was the manager stated ‘I don’t know who took that order but it’s not on your tab’. The bar staff then made our drinks and were apologetic but they were clearly very busy at the bar and probably require more bar staff. The manager then brought our drinks over and told us we would need to order all further drinks from the bar and not from our table because it was getting too much for the bar staff. I thought this was bad customer service due to the fact we had ordered food and surely should be able to order drinks with it in the same way and moreover, quite rude, given the drinks had been forgotten about and arrived so late. I would recommend the food here but if you want anymore than one drink with your meal I’d head elsewhere.

Can't praise this place enough, great food, great service, no messing about, the customer comes first. I've been several times now and would recommend to anyone

Every time I go to The Townhouse I leave disappointed.
Good:
- food
- cocktails
- booths
- some waiting on staff who really try

Bad :
- lack of knowledge by very young staff
- a 'that's just the way it is'attitude from the management
- it turns into a young thing night spot past 7pm and it is obvious that is the priority
- the bill is often wrong
- not enough bar staff
- some very draughty areas

Will be boycotting from now and sticking with The Duke.

Been here twice now....service is pretty slow...food was ok....place itself is lovely....however both times we have been in, we have been there from lunch till evening (late) and both times we have had to move three times as they need the table for someone else...fair enough but when you have been there a long time and spent a lot of money on food and drink surely it is better to keep people like us happy rather than those who reserve the table for one drink?? The manager is not a friendly guy...the staff try their hardest but there are not enough of them....
We paid our bill and foolishly didn’t check it enough as since then we discovered we have been charged for quite a few drinks we didn’t have......
My advice to people ...go for food but don’t expect great service ...then for drinks....go to the duke of Edinburgh.....
