Just Returned from high biggin what a fabulous place for a long weekend great weather stunning property full of character it was booked by a family member 14 months ago about a 15 minute walk to bowness we all enjoyed it
We've been coming to High Biggin for the last 7 years and this year was absolutely perfect! We had one or two issues last year but Jonathon, the owner, listened and acted on them which made our weekend stay, this time, lovely. The Cottage is beautiful, the welcome pack is everything you need for your stay, the towels, robes and slippers are lovely, the hot tub is always the highlight of our stay and this year, again, did not disappoint. It's in a perfect location with only being a 10 minute walk into Bowness (probably about 15 - 20 minutes back as it is uphill!) I will be booking again! Thanks again!
We stayed recently for Mums birthday as a family and had an amazing time.
The house is massive and is a real luxury.
The hot tub is great fun and has views over Lake Windermere.
Its in an excellent location for walking and a short walk to Bowness.
The living room is really cosy and brilliant to relax in around the wood fire.
Would love to return.
A really lovely house, which needs only a few tweaks to be truly 5 star.
Below is the email which I sent to the General Manager, after I raised some issues with reception.
Very disappointingly, I have had no acknowledgment whatsoever.
My family and I stayed at the High Biggin property last week, and overall had a really lovely stay.
I don’t need to extoll the beauty of the property or the setting, however I would like to draw your attention to some housekeeping issues which were somewhat disappointing and not worthy of a 5 star property,
Firstly, on our arrival, one bedroom had no bath towels, and in another, the dressing gowns were very damp, and ended up back in the dryer.
The beautiful view over the lake (as pictured on the website)from the outside seating area was obscured by overgrown plants which would benefit from being clipped.
The dishwasher was totally clogged, and clearly hadn’t been cleaned, so wasn’t cleaning. My brother fixed this, rinsed the heads etc., but providing salt and rinse aid would make a difference, equally the kitchen sink doesn’t drain properly, and I was told by the maintenance man (who was very personable) that this has been an issue for some time
The bedroom coffee table in the master bedroom is very shabby with ring marks and stains, as are several of the carpets especially the one in the kitchen.
Many of the “non-stick” pans, blunt knives and scissors need replacing, as this is a lovely kitchen to cook in.
The downstairs toilet seat is the wrong size for the toilet.
Equally, the beds are really comfortable. The welcome basket was very nice, and the Jacuzzi bath is great.
I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m nit-picking. My parents (in their 80’s) and my brother and his wife loved the cottage, as I did. Having stayed many times at the Beech, over the years, High Biggin suited us for a visit “en masse”, and we will look to return, however some minor improvements would take the property to a whole new level.
We have stayed here numerous times and found the standards have slipped quite a lot over the last few years.. room 2 shower is and has been broken for a long time (our last 2 stays) and the drainage is rubbish. cobwebs all over the place and generally needs updating. Last year there was a flood through the roof too when we were there..its a lovely place in a great location but could be much better .. :(
