We came here with friends on a Sunday Night during our stay in this beautiful part of the world. Booked a few days before as we had heard great things about this place, and wanted somewhere we could walk to from our accomodation.

It's a small restaurant, but that is why there is a lovely buzz about the place, nice atmosphere and it is recommended you book ahead to avoid disappointment.

I ordered the Pan Fried Chicken Livers to start and they were a nice surprise. Between us all, our meals were great. We cleared our plates. Notable mentions should go to the Arancini, Cheese Souffle, Monk Fish Scampi, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple Crumble Cheesecake. All delicious . All devoured.

The quality, presentation and portion size is spot on and this place deserves it's AA rossettes and place in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere. For a touristy area this place is also a hit with the locals too as we found out from talking to other diners that night.

The price was good too - approx £90 per couple inc. wine and beers.
Will definitely recommend to others coming to the area, and to anyone that is local and yet to try - do your taste buds a favour and book it now.

Dinner at the Porto tonight was excellent. The food was of a very high standard in very nicely set out restaurant. It was very busy so service was a little slow but the waitress apologised and gave us drinks on the house while we waited, but I must say it was well worth the wait as the food was excellent. Our thanks to the very professional waitress who looked after us throughout our meal. Highly recommended.

Two of us went here the other night. Premises quite nice. Food was only average especially for the highish prices. Perhaps either we were unlucky on that evening or our choice of food, because our experience was nowhere near the 5 stars posted by many other reviewers. Portions are a bit small and the tartare sauce that came with the fish starter was really strange. It didn't have any capers in it. I've never had it without capers anywhere else - should it be described as tartare sauce on the menu?
Service was brisk and businesslike - but not particularly friendly. And my bill was wrong by £20 until it was queried - guess who benefitted from this mistake?? Well it wasn't me.
I know the area well - and my advice would be to spend £3-50 on a cab to Windermere village where there are 2 Italian restaurants that are much better and cheaper.

A really lovely restaurant. Staff were all brilliant, food was gorgeous. The dauphinois potatoes were the best I’ve ever had. Atmosphere was perfect, pudding and liquor coffee were also fantastic. Couldn’t rate it highly enough. Thanks for a great evening

Booked late Friday for Saturday night.
The service was first class, the food was outstanding & the atmosphere great.
All the staff were great but one waitress in particular (forgot her name - too much red wine) went over and above for everyone. Nothing was too much trouble.
If I owned a Restaurant I would want her to front it.
Outstanding!
