“It is what it is!!!”
Reviewed 19 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Great location for town and surrounding areas but very noisy. The accommodation is adequate but in need of some major tidying up and redecoration.
Kitchen is very poor standard and garden is a bit of a puzzle.
Parking out-front is a lottery but you can usually find a space somewhere?
It worked for us so as I say " it is what it is"

“Fairhill or Poorhill”

Stayed in this cottage for a week whilst visiting family in Callander. Our review is very mixed and I have to agree with everything the previous reviewer said. But to be completely fair I will list the good and the bad.

The good...
Good location, within walking distance of all this lovely town has to offer.
Clean linens and reasonably comfortable beds.
Heating perfectly adiquate and excellent WiFi.
Good TV and nice addition of a radio.

The bad...
Lack of decent light restricting curtains in bedrooms, a must seeing that street lights are on all night. The addition of a full length mirror (maybe on the landing) would also be appreciated.
The kitchen is a nightmare, in particular the stove. No indication as to which knob activates which ring. Even when they are switched on they hardly produce a decent cooking temperature.
The oven was dreadful, put it on to cook a couple of pizzas and after 10 minutes heating up to required temperature I opened the oven door and smoke came billowing out filling the miniscule kitchen and the large dinning area. The oven was filthy and hadn't seen a good clean sine Adam was a lad! We found that most of the cookware and glassware were not cleaned properly either and had to clean a lot of things before using. All the utensils had seen better days but the crockery is very good.
Windows in desperate need of attention. Despite being in a preservation area we notice that the majority of neighbouring properties has replacement double glazing.
Furniture in lounge uncomfortable and not at all relaxing.
Poor bathroom, in particular the shower.

All in all, we feel the cottage could do with some updating with emphasis on guest cumfort. While we understand that decoration and aesthetics are subjective, a lot more could be done to make the cottage more comfortable and pleasing on the eye, especially for the price that we have paid - too high for this class of accomodation, in our humble opinion. As for that stove... It should be given a decent burial - preferably from the top of a cliff!
We expected better.

Management Response
30 May 2016
Thank you for taking time to review the cottage, we are sorry that you found the cottage lacking in a few areas. I will now respond to your comments as follows:
1. We are still looking into trying to source blackout blinds or curtains to fit the window alcoves – due to the size and shape of the dormer window alcoves this is proving to be difficult to get an off the shelf solution that will still allow easy opening of the windows when required.
2. With regard to a full length mirror, we will have a look next time we are in the property to see if we think it is a good idea, the only reservation I have is that it would be accessible to small children who might break it and could potentially be banged into by folk carrying luggage up to the bedrooms
3. With regard to the hob, I am sure that the hob top has a wee diagram on the top showing which knob turns on which ring. The rings all work and the hob is a standard electric type hob, these do not heat up as quickly as a halogen or induction hob so maybe that is the reason you found them so slow if you are used to these.
4. The Oven is thoroughly cleaned periodically and between each let is opened up and wiped round with cream cleaner if there is mess, I can only apologise as to why you found it to be dirty and smoked during your stay maybe it was missed for some reason last time, I can assure you that this will be thoroughly investigated when we are next in the property.
5. Likewise there is not enough time between changeovers to wash all of the cutlery and crockery, we expect guests to wash up dishes after use and as such only ever wash up stuff that is left dirty or is noticed when we look into the cupboards and drawers each time between lets. I would really not expect guests to put dishes away dirty.
6. As we have stated before the property is in a conservation area and as such we are not allowed to replace the existing windows or to put double glazed units in (we would be prosecuted for doing so). Your comment about neighbouring properties having double glazing is correct but these will have been done before the conservation area was in place. We bought the property in 2010 and the rules were in place at that point.
7. The furniture in the lounge consists of 2 leather sofas and a fabric covered sofa bed. The sofas are smaller than many as the size of the room means there is not room to accommodate a large suite, cushions are provided to make things as comfortable as possible.
8. The shower in the bathroom is a standard 8.5KW electric shower and as such provides exactly what you can expect from an electric shower, this will never give the sort of flow you would expect from a power shower.
We welcome constructive comments and will always try to improve the experience of our guests, our website has many photos of the inside of the cottage so that anyone booking can see exactly what it looks like and how it is furnished, this is our best attempt at making sure that guests get what they expect once they arrive. Most of our guest reviews say that the cottage is very comfortable and well equipped so I can only apologise once more that your stay didn't quite meet your expectations.

“Base for week in the Trossachs ...”
Reviewed 19 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

First impressions were as expected from the advertisement. The cottage is cosy and quaint and very welcoming. We were attending a wedding in nearby Roman Camp Hotel and found this cottage very convenient. We used this place as a base for our trail walks around the Trossachs National Park. Overall a very clean and comfortable cottage. We had a satisfying stay and highly recommend this place.

“Excellent value for money”
Reviewed 30 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Wonderful property, better location than we could have hoped for. Clean comfortable and contrary to some other review, very warm !!!!. Loads of golf courses in the area, good base for mountain walks, leisure drives, shopping in the likes of Stirling or Glasgow, We all are thoroughly enjoying it.

Teresa, thank you for taking time to review the cottage, we are sorry that you found the cottage lacking in a few areas. I will now respond to your comments as follows:
1. The cottage is advertised as being in the main street and as such is on the busiest road in Callander, this does make it handy for all the local shops, restaurants etc. but will be noisier than a countryside cottage. We are currently looking at getting the windows seen to but the property is in a conservation area and as such we are not allowed to replace the existing windows or to put double glazed units in. The downstairs rooms already have secondary double glazing and we are considering getting this fitted to the upstairs rooms. With respect to the heating we have not had any other complaints about being cold, I did notice when I went in to change over the cottage that the bedroom radiators were turned down to 2 so maybe that was the reason. It was also bitterly cold (-7 on the Sunday morning) during your visit.
With respect to your other comments, tea towels are in the bottom drawer in the kitchen (there are usually 2 spare ones provided), the bin liners are in the cupboard under the sink as is the dustpan and brush. Salt, pepper and cooking oil are in the cupboard above the cooker.
We always appreciate constructive comments and will consider getting lined curtains or blackout blinds in the bedrooms and will check that the radiators are working correctly in the other rooms.
