I chose Acorn Lodge for a long weekend stay to celebrate my mum's 80th birthday. She has mobility problems so it was essential that the property catered for her needs. Our first impressions were delight. The location was perfect and there was easy accessibility for my mum. The bedrooms were clean and light. The shower and toilet were spotless. The kitchen was suitably stocked and the addition of bacon, eggs and milk was a pleasant surprise. We soon felt at home and it proved to be an excellent base for exploring the Norfolk countryside and the coast. I also took the opportunity to go for some power walks and loved the peace and quiet. The local village of Mattishall has a lovely fish and chip shop and butchers. Norwich and Dereham are good for shopping and not too far away.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. There were only a few issues which we felt could be easily addressed by the owners :
The shower tray was slippery and the shower itself had a very weak spray.
The small rugs in each room were slippery and dangerous for someone who has mobility problems.
The mattress on the single bed was very uncomfortable, with springs sticking up.
It would have been helpful to have a mop for the shower floor and a brush and dustpan for sweeping up crumbs.
Angie was very hospitable and offered lots of advice and made us very welcome.
We would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a rural holiday.
A weekend away with an elderly parent provides a certain amount of challenges. Acorn Lodge and it accommodating owner Angie managed to ensure the whole stay was pleasurable and fun. Located in the Norfolk countryside, surrounded by fields the Lodge is quiet and tranquil. But just down the road you have the village stores, and an all important and delicious fish & chip shop.
The main reason for booking the Lodge was the bathroom facilities. This meant a large walk in shower, with no bath to step over. The rest was ideal, lovely clean rooms and a fully equipped kitchen, for the all important bacon and eggs in the morning.
From here trips to Sandrinham, Norwich, and the excellent Fox pub at Lyng were all easy, even though my sat nav seemed to love the Norfolk country lanes.
If you want a clean comfortable stay in the Norfolk countryside book it now !
Nice little lodge with enclosed garden for our little dog.
BBQ area and seating available.
Lots of wildlife.
Angie really friendly, would stay here again, thanks
This is our third time at the Lodges, Acorn and Pine. The lodges have everything you need for a wonderful stay and the owners Karl and Angie are very welcoming and ready to help with anything if needed.
The lodges are tucked away off a very quiet lane and surrounded by fields. Close by is Cafe Verde (excellent home made food using local ingredients), Tabnabs Tea Rooms and a Chip shop, local grocery store and a butchers are all in the village nearby. The pub also serves excellent meals.
If you want a quiet, relaxing, homely place to stay, this is ideal. If you want to travel further afield, there are many places to visit. Our two dogs love it too !
The cottage was comfortable, clean and tidy and had everything I needed. It is in a lovely quiet rural location and perfectly situated to explore the beautiful Norfolk countryside and within easy reach to the historic City of Norwich and the coast.
The owners are lovely, helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble for them.
I had a very relaxing and enjoyable time with my dog and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a rural retreat
