It oozes character with ceiling beams, an inglenook fireplace with a gas fired stove, restored pine doors and exposed stonework. The mullioned window in the kitchen dates from 1650 when it was part of a farmhouse. Unusually for a cottage, it has spacious rooms and high ceilings but please be aware that the stairs are steep. The sunny garden has beautiful views across the valley and is a lovely place to relax after a day out. The fully equipped kitchen features an electric oven and ceramic hob, a small dishwasher, a fridge with small freezer, a microwave and a Dolce Gusto coffee maker. A washer/dryer is hidden in a modern cupboard in the contemporary upstairs bathroom with a white suite and grey porcelain tiles. The long shower bath widens at one end and has an Aqualisa digital rain shower as well as a hand shower attachment. The gas central heating boiler is inside a cupboard. We provide an illuminated mirror, shaver socket, and complimentary bath and shower products. There is a landing with a desk and good Wifi is available throughout the cottage. The sunny bedroom has a lovely view, a Victorian feature fireplace, in built storage and a magnificent superking ( 2m long, 1.8m wide) Hypnos bed. This can be configured as 2 long single beds by prior arrangement. There is also space for a baby to sleep in a travel cot which can also be provided along with a bath seat, changing mat and toys. We provide high quality bed linen, towels, mattress, pillow and duvet protectors. Relax in the living room with its woodblock flooring, antique dining table, and comfortable seating including a chair with local place names. The leather sofa extends into a proper sprung bed for an additional guest. The paintings and wall decorations all have a local theme and we have a 50” SMART tv with over 100 freeview channels, a DVD player, a little library of books, and games. Don’t forget to bring your Netflix and Amazon Prime log in details for a chilled evening in. Calderdale is now famous as a filming destination and our heritage locality has featured in "Last Tango in Halifax", "Happy Valley" and "Gentleman Jack". Walk and cycle the many miles of footpaths/cycleways locally such as the Calder Valley Greenway. Stay here to work locally, visit family and friends, explore nature and walk the canal towpaths. The Calder and Hebble Navigation and the Rochdale Canal are a short walk from the cottage. Explore the South Pennines and Yorkshire Dales NP, visit Haworth/ Bronte Country or historic York. Industrial archaeology abounds here and converted mills now host shops, bars, restaurants, exhibitions, and art galleries. Don't forget to visit the fabulous Piece Hall in Halifax where the hand loom weavers used to sell their pieces of cloth. This magnificent Grade11 listed building offers a retail and cultural experience. Located in the Pye Nest area of Halifax, under the shadow of the famous Wainhouse Tower, the cottage is perfectly located. A bus passes the gate and both Sowerby Bridge and Halifax stations are 1 and 2 miles away and Calderdale Royal Hospital is 1 mile. Shopping, pubs and restaurants are within a short walk and on street parking is available. An award winning CAMRA pub nearby offers lovely home cooked Yorkshire fare and a very friendly welcome to our guests. Dyer’s Cottage near Halifax Yorkshire is a self catering holiday cottage which is listed on several sites all of which charge you and us a fee. We support book direct and have an alternative pricing structure too. No smoking within the property but feel free to light up outside!

Interaction with guestsWe have a keybox and the code is changed regularly so it is released shortly before arrival I do like to communicate with my guests before arrival so that they are sure how to reach the cottage, know where the best pubs and restaurants are and how to generally feel at home. I will request your email address to send this information sheet to shortly before arrival. My housekeeper lives very close by. I also have a local housekeeper who is around in case of any difficulty and our neighbours keep us informed too.

Hotel grade bathroom & Hypnos bed in a perfect period cottage
The cottage more than met expectations, both in its location with spectacular views and the fact that it was so well-equipped meant we could have travelled lighter! The area was new to us but we soon found our way round, thanks to all the information provided. We went to Shibden Hall and to see the costumes from Gentleman Jack in the Museum. Saltaire Village was another highlight, as was Hebden Bridge. So many walking routes but not enough time in a week to do them justice. It was the first time we had experienced a comfortable bed in a holiday rental which made such a difference, and the bathroom was excellent. Dyer’s Cottage would of course be our choice if we are able to visit Calderdale again.

Perfect cottage in an amazing location
We have stayed in this lovely cottage twice now, at Easter and over an earlier Christmas. On both occasions we were thrilled with the accommodation and location. The cottage is delightfully decorated, has all the amenities you might need, plus a huge bath/shower and an enormous, comfy bed. It is also in a great location - you can walk in one direction to the city centre and the delightful Peace Hall. Or go the opposite way and you are in the beautiful Calderdale countryside. Excellent walks on your doorstep and lovely places to visit, just a short drive away. Plus just a few doors down is a great pub, with lots of local beers on tap, friendly people, great food and the biggest yorkshire puddings you have ever seen! Looking forward to returning again.

Wonderful characterful cottage
What a delight, tea, coffee milk and biscuits there when we arrived. The place is easy to find and parking is on street but plentiful. The cottage was immaculate, nothing out of place and very well appointed. Nothing was yoo much trouble during our stay and we visited local attractions like Hebden Bridge and the Worth valley railway. We will definitely stay there again.

Wonderful characterful cottage.
This cottage is immaculate, it is filled with history and has been beautifully restored retaining many original features. It is a very quiet, peaceful home, yet close to a pub doing amazing food, Halifax, Hebden Bridge and Haworth. I would highly recomend this home.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed staying in our recently renovated 1650 cottage. We have tried to keep as many original features as possible yet provide contemporary levels of comfort. The sunny garden is an extra space to relax after a day out. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review.

Home away from home
Dyer's cottage is a lovely home away from home. Superbly and thoughtfully equipped. The owners have clearly given a lot of thought to making sure guests have everything they might possibly need. Very modern bathroom otherwise the rest of the place has a perfect mixture of old with creature comforts we've come to expect. I stayed there for 28 days with my English bulldog. In my option not a location for someone like me with no car and who no longer drives, nor for a lazy old English bulldog because the area is very hilly. This made it challenging to move around and we were therefore limited to the areas we could explore. However, if I drove and had a car i would not hesitate to go back. Don't hesitate. If you have a car or will have access to one there then book this cottage now. It's excellent value and I'm sure you will feel like I and others have that this feels like a home away from home.

Delightful experience
It has taken a while to catch up on my reviews, but now is time to give my opinion of this wee little cottage in Halifax. I have checked through the tripadvisor comments and see that they are all 5 solid circles. This comes as no surprise, as our stay for two nights last year was devine. Jane has the place set up to accept bespoke travellers who appreciate nice things and respect where they stay. The property is comfortable, extremely well appointed and a delightful place to spend some time. The other plus, is that the Wainhouse Tavern is no more than staggering distance away to give sustanance to the weary traveller. Just one word of warning,,,,,one of the steps going upstairs is a different riser height, so do be careful.

Delightful
Decided on Dyers cottage from previous reviews. Was not disappointed. It was so well represented with all you could need. Lovely front garden with nearly all day sun(wine in the afternoon). Cosy feeling lounge, gas fire, comfy seating and plenty to read. If it's worth seeing there'll be info on it. Well appointed kitchen if you eat in. Found the Wainhouse Tavern nearly next door(seperate review). Lovely bedroom with super king bed and views out to the country. Bathroom well thought out, excellent shower. Will return.

Gorgeous cottage and a very special place
Had a wonderful stay at Dyer's. The cottage has been beautifully renovated by the very helpful and friendly owners (check out the pics in the photo album there) and has a lovely feel. It's also spotlessly clean and very well-appointed... we didn't want for anything. There are some lovely touches, including a host of local info, maps and books... the owners have obviously really thought about what their guests might need/want during their stay. Lovely comfy bed, too! Really handy for Halifax, Shibden and the stunning Calderdale countryside. All in all, Dyer's is one of the loveliest rental cottages we've ever stayed in and we could happily have moved in!

A cosy treat
It was just like the photos. Clean and fresh and bright. The garden is south facing and gets lots of sun. Perfect for a break with our dog. The flame fire in the living room was really lovely. The bathroom clean and modern. Comfy bed. Well stocked kitchen including treats for the dog. Everything was taken care of. It's in a lovely neighbourhood with quaint cobbled streets all around. Minutes from the Piece Hall and a short drive to Hebden Bridge. There is a Tesco's just up the hill. I would love to return. Jane was super friendly and easily to deal with.

Thank you so much for sparing the time to write this review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your weekend in Halifax. As you say, there is so much to see and do especially now that Anne Lister has become famous as a result of the BBC/HBO series 'Gentleman Jack'. It would be lovely if you can visit again.

Picture perfect!!
It is as good as it looks! It has everything that a 2-3 people or a family and their pet would need to have some excellent time and relax after travelling all around in Halifax & Yorklshire! Very close to bus stops taking you directly to the city centre making traveling easy despite any weather! And the location has a feeling of a village in the countryside although its just a few minutes away of the city centre!! Great vacation!

I am so pleased you enjoyed your holiday despite the torrential storm you experienced. Dyer's cottage is , as you say, situated in a very good location for transport, shops, a great pub and there are so many walks too. Shibden Hall, home of Anne Lister/Gentleman Jack is just 4 miles away and previous guests have even walked there. We do hope that you are able to return sometime.

About the neighbourhood
The area on this part of the West Yorkshire/Lancashire border has been dramatically portrayed recently in TV series Valley It is a mixture of industrial architecture, quiet villages, often with traditional pubs offering local beer, and extensive valley and moorland scenery. History abounds, whether it be of the buildings connected with the Industrial Revolution or old churches, abbeys and stately homes to visit. The immediate area around Dyer's Cottage was rural until the latter part of the 19th century with most people working as farmers or in the local dyeworks. The outward expansion of Halifax led to further growth in the area but most properties are over 100 years old and this area is regarded as one of the most desirable in which to live. Public transport (both buses and trains) are frequent offering connections to Bradford, Leeds, Manchester and beyond and there is a range of shops and services within walking distance.
Getting around
Public transport is excellent with an hourly bus during the day actually passing the gate but many more busses pass within 250m of the cottage so you can get directly to Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Rochdale, Burnley and beyond if you change buses at these places. The train stations at Sowerby Bridge 1 mile and Halifax 2 miles allow easy travel to Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, York, Blackpool, Scarborough and more. Walking and cycling are also ways of exploring the area.

Car not needed
How to get there
Excellent public transport by train and bus enables visitors to explore a wide range of local places but a car or cycle (which can be hired for the day from Happy Days in Sowerby Bridge) makes it easier to get to the more remote attractions. On street unrestricted free car parking is available.
