This is a comfortable guest house 15 to 20 minutes walk from the centre of Kirkwall (and very near the Highland Park Distillery). During the day, there are also regular buses into the town and direct from the airport.
Breakfast was good. On one day of our stay we were leaving at 6.45 for a full day visit to Westray; as this was too early for breakfast service, a continental breakfast was left out for us to help ourselves, which we appreciated.
The beds were comfortable and the room was a reasonable size. However, insufficient thought had been given to the other furnishing of our room. There was a unit with five small and shallow drawers and a bedside unit with two more small shallow drawers. All drawers were too small for a folded shirt or more than very few items of clothing. The room did have a good sized built-in cupboard but all it contained was a rail and hangers. There was ample space for a few shelves, which would have given the room the storage it lacked, but there were none.
We would recommend this guest house for anyone with very little luggage, but it is not a good choice for travellers with more luggage, such as ourselves. We ended up living out of a suitcase during our stay, because there was no shelf or drawer where could put most of our clothes.More
