We rented the whole of The Old Sawmill (Mill cottages and the stables) for a Hen Party in March 2016. We arrived on the Friday afternoon and where welcomed by the owner (who was incredibly helpful and welcoming) and stayed two nights.
The cottages are cute and clean in fair condition with a well equipped kitchen for a weekend break. The Stables 2 has a lovely large kitchen. On the whole it was perfect, but certain elements such as quite hard beds and dorm like bedding let it down slightly, however for the price we paid and the amount we were in our rooms, we were very satisfied!
We found it to be clean, affordable and just right for a crowd – perfect for our country loving Bride to be.
Handy info for hen planners who wish to allocate rooms in advance:
We where a party of 17, however the total accommodation sleeps up to 18.
Mill 1 – Two double bedrooms with en-suite with bath and kitchen (sleeps 4)
Mill 2 – Double bedroom and twin room with bath and kitchen (sleeps 4)
Mill 3 – Two double bedrooms with bath and kitchen (sleeps 4)
Stables 1 – Double futon with shower and kitchenette (sleeps 2)
Stables 2 – Double sofa bed and double bedroom with shower and large kitchen (sleeps 4)
The stables are a walk across the courtyard – good for those wanting a little more quiet from the cottages.
There is plenty of parking onsite.
You are in quiet a rural area so phone signal is non existent – however wifi in the games room made keeping in touch ok. In the games room you can (just about) seat 17 at a squeeze around a pool table with a large table tennis topper- this was perfect for our group dinners and crafting session followed by a game of pool!
You are around 30 mins from Folkstone where we went to a fabulous restaurant – Rocksalt over looking the harbour.
Our only negative feedback is the lack of showers – showers are needed in the cottages (baths took to long on this kind of weekend when lots of girls are sharing bathrooms!). But it’s not a game changer - I would happily return for another group weekend at the Old Sawmill.
Having stayed in one of the other cottages previously (3 separate occassions) and enjoyed a very relaxing rural 'get away from it all' holiday, I decided to take a friend with me this time. We booked 1 Mill Cottage as it boasted x2 double rooms with ensuite and living area in the middle, it was perfect!! The owners are very friendly and always willing to help or suggest places to go. We had a car, which is essential, and managed many lovely days out. Beautiful Canterbury is only 20mins away, and Ashford with its train links to France is 20 mins the other direction. We did a day trip to Paris from here!
Have booked for Oct 2014 again!
