hit Hay about 7pm after a day out walking my border collie on the hills and found my way to Terris feeling like a good nosh up; not disappointed at all...perfect white cod cooked to perfection and so big it filled both me and my dog up...chips whilst not crispy were really nice and juicy.
re the spray vinegar..well done to the local mayor for that suggestion as the nice lady applied it evenly over the chips, then after my approval did likewise to the fish placed on top.
cost me £6.80 and well worth it
good to see tables and chairs set up on the little patio outside as i'm sure hill walkers would really appreciate these after a gruelling trek
very polite and friendly service from the two ladies present and paper serviettes freely available
next time i'm in Hay i'll be heading straight to Terris after the book shops

Visited last night and can honestly say that this was the most disgusting fish and chips that we have ever eaten. The fish and chips have never been great in Hay but thought we would try it again, bad mistake. Very overpriced and greasy tasteless food. Nearly £7 for fish and chips won't ever be going back!

We used to look forward to.our annual treat at this chippy during Hay Festival under it's old management. Last year was poor but this year I threw it away. The fish was overcooked and had been held so long that the batter was like shoe leather and the fish inside was hard. The chips were greasy and nowhere near as good as they had been previously. The new owners either know nothing about fish frying or are taking advantage of the May crowds. If its the second, it isn't paying off. You used to have to queue for a long time and now you can walk in. Unless it changes hands, none of us will go there again. It even made our dog sick.
