Our first night out in a year after having our twins was such a delight at off grid. What a refreshingly different dining experience. Huw, cooking and bringing our food to the table made me feel like I had my own chef... a brilliant cook, quiet, unassuming. The food just kept coming. We did not know the other diners which made the evening more exciting and we had an engaging time with them all. We had mint tea made in an open fire as we all sat outside on cushions watching the sunset over the hill - fabulous-Thanks Huw, looking forward to bringing our friends next summer.

Together with friends we spoilt ourselves to Off Grid Gourmet after a day canoeing on the river Wye. It was the best culinary experience we had for a very long time.

The food was beautifully presented, delicious, fresh, tasty, only local produce. The talented chef/host Hugh Sawyer was so welcoming and friendly. Everything was simply cooked and prepared with passion and love in a gorgeous location.
We would definitely come back next year. Thank you so much, Hugh!!!

As a relatively last minute idea for a birthday meal I had the bright idea to contact Hugh to see if he was cooking on Wednesday evening, he quickly emailed back and said he hadn't promoted the date but would happily oblige and cater for our party exclusively, he took the group details and requirements (a few fussy eaters!), put together timing, menu and price and we were set... it was too easy!! When we arrived the table was laid beautifully, the greeting was warm and friendly and the smells coming from the kitchen were divine. Supper was fresh, seasonal and extremely moreish. Interacting with Hugh and discussing the food as well as other topics while he was prepping was great, he is just the best host... really relaxed and versatile. The setting is divine too, over looking the Wye Valley on a quiet property called Walkers Cottage that also offers eco-camping and glamping, chickens roam free and the honesty camping shop selling fire-wood, homemade jams and chutneys and free range eggs is just gorgeous. If you live nearby or are visiting Hay you MUST go here, it's a gem. Thanks Hugh, you enabled a very busy little family who rarely sit and relax together to have a few hours of peace and a change of scenery and to just be together, it was great and deserving of many more than 5 stars.

Having planned a break near Hay-On-Wye I was keen to find somewhere different & interesting to eat. I chose the Off Grid Gourmet as thankfully it didn't offer the same fayre that most other restaurants & pubs provide.
The food was imaginatively & skilfully put together by Hugh & each course was delicious & balanced to compliment one another.
Sharing your table & meal with strangers may sound alien to some but it is a lovely way to dine as the conversation soon flows & it's a great way to pick up tips & recommendations from your fellow diners.
It was a perfect summers evening with which to enjoy the peaceful location of the Off Grid Gourmet.
I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to try it.
