Terrible. Prawns.. off? Sent back! Soup like water with no flavour. Pork, bought better at deli in proudfoots!
Dessert ok, microwave rice pudding. Shame it was only hot in places.

Only 1 other couple in, know why now! Music ok. Service, pleasant.
Thank God we had a voucher!
Not going back any time soon.

Visited here for Sunday Lunch, we had visited here Dec 2016 and had a lovely meal. I rang at short notice fo a group and was offered a choice of time slots (which should have alerted me that all was not well). The staff were friendly and attentive and several of us chose the Roast Lamb having asked and been assured that it was pink. When it arrived it was well done - not pink at all. Small portions of tasteless steamed veg and inedible Yorkshire Pudding - not cooked so just solidified batter. One of our party had fish and it arrived cold, it was returned and when it came back it was still not hot. The total bill was £180 for 7 people - most of us had had 2 courses, and One drink apiece. This is really bad value for a meal no-one enjoyed - a standard Toby carvery is far better quality. I have seen recent reviews which praise The Anvil - so I can only assume that they have a major issue with delivering a consistently good product. Not one in our party will be returning - when you pay that sort of sum you expect a memorable meal for all the right reasons.

As a party of four we have held off coming here as we had meal vouchers and reviews have been disappointing to say the least. So arriving today we expected nothing and we were right. We ordered the Biryani chicken curry, bbq ribs, lamb and mint pie and a beef burger. The chicken curry was more ‘slop’ 6 pieces of chicken and bland. The beef burger was spicy this not mentioned and was left, the ribs looked unappetising but were eaten, my pie had more pastry than filling. Carrots were not peeled and the rest of the veg hardly cooked. Most of the food was left.

We then tried the desserts, orange creme brûlée, milk chocolate and mint cheesecake and lemon posset. The brûlée went back as not cooked and the replacement was the same. The cheesecake tasted more caramel than mint and I left some of mine, The lemon posset however did pass muster.

We were told that the creme brûlée would not be charged for, also a reduction in cost for the beef burger, but as the meal was a prepaid voucher, we in effect got nothing, the total bill with drinks was £78, we paid £20 per couple for the voucher, after applying the voucher we just paid for the drinks. What I should have done was to have got the drinks free as we gained no monetary compensation.

The owners need to get a grip, prices are not cheap and no where near the standard I would expect and we all eat out regularly. We certainly won’t be returning, it’s just a shame we never went under the previous owners.

We were driving round looking for somewhere to eat on a chilly summer evening. We passed several places on the main road none of which looked inviting. We saw a sign for the Anvil Inn and decided to have a look. It was a pleasant surprise and an added bonus dog friendly!
We went in with the dog and there was another dog there too which made us feel more comfortable having taken ours inside.
We found the barmaid and the waiter friendly and we had a laugh and joke with them. There were other people in the bar area and a couple of tables occupied in the restaurant. We were impressed with the menu choices-my steak delicious and done perfectly, my husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak and ale pie. My dessert was also ‘too’ nice.
As diners left there were a few locals still there but again we all joined in conversation.
We enjoyed the meal and place so much we returned the next evening with our daughter and grandson. Again we were not disappointed. This time whilst we waited for our meals my husband and grandson(6) played with games provided by the pub.
We will certainly return again on our next visit to the coast, and have already recommended it to our friends.
If I had any suggestions it would be to perhaps have a child menu. It doesn’t have to be large or even just offer small portions for children.

I’ve read negative reviews but to be honest our experience was fine and maybe some people just don’t make an effort themselves.

Pleasant airy room with a comfortable bed, excellent shower and soft towels. Lovely peaceful surroundings away from any main roads. Our room looked over the main village street but there was very little traffic during the night. We were able to get a table for a good evening meal but it might be advisable to book to be sure of this. Other local places to eat were advertised in the information booklet. Good wifi.
We would have liked a shelf for items in the shower room. The local TV reception was patchy especially for BBC channels, but we were able to get the programmes we wanted via the wifi and internet (a selection of DVDs was also provided).
Thank you.
