The Good: Perfect location on the seafront; helpful and pleasant staff; clean; good breakfast.

The not-so-good: Twin room very small; no bath; it seemed every floorboard in the room above creaked; lounge and dining-area have no atmosphere (too bright); lounge needs some comfy sofas

Room tip: Go for a room on the top floor, so there is no one above you. Sea views and balcony are worth extra.

Day visit to Sidmouth whilst on holiday in Teignmouth, so decided to have sunday lunch. Menu with a small choice, so chose roast beef. waited a while but food was very hot when it arrived and very tasty. The beef was quite thick and took some cutting, but was nicely flavoured with plenty of vegetables. usband had room for desert and chose a lemon posset served with kumquat and shortbread. possett was a bit thick but enjoyable.

Loved the hotel. Quaint. Mostly older guests. We had a room facing the ocean. Kept the doors open at night to listen to the sound of the waves. Staff were friendly. Great full English breakfast! I would definitely recommend this for the hotel itself, location and friendly staff.

Stayed the the hotel Elizabeth weekend 22 and 23 sept 2018 whilst the hotel and staff were excellent the room i had was dreadful i was charged £141 per night bed and breakfast for a double room as a single person it was not much bigger than a large cupboard so small hardly get past the bed and unit with very small tv mirror and a tray with 1 cup 1 glass 1 pkt biscuits 1teabag 1decafe coffee 1 sachet of nescafe coffee i small hand towel 1 small bath towel for the price i was charged i think i should have had double as its classed as a double room also as i was charged the same as my friends with a very large twin bedded room with a lovely bathroom and a view of the front that was room 17 i feel very aggrieved my room was room 19 the window was a fixed window the only way to get any air in was to open the transom that was it have contacted the hotel with my views yet to hear back such a shame as we loved sidmouth and as i said the hotel and staff were great just beware if you are offered ROOM 19 i would suggest you check it before you accept it wish i had done

We had a couple of days down here beginning of this month with brilliant weather. We opted for a balcony room on the first floor facing the front where the views are just great. Our room was spacious and with very easy access from the lift. The staff were all extremely professional courteous and helpful. The breakfasts, particularly the poached egg dishes, were superb and were filling. The only criticisms was that the sea facing inside room wall really needed some redecorating and the linings of both curtains were ripped in a number of places and had been for quite a while. We would have expected this to have been picked up on room inspections and at least repaired if only temporarily. Also if you are going to have posh branded bottles of hand soap and hair shampoo etc don't refill them with far cheaper products as you can tell they were not the originals, and the bottles due to possible overuse, were starting to look a bit tacky. As this is not a cheap hotel, (£174 a night b&b), we therefore have to decrease the overall rating by one as it cannot be classed as all around excellent but would definitely stay here again.

Room tip: Reserved parking spaces 31/32 at back - the drop from the car space is high and easy to scrape your car's bumper lip.
