Owner description: Balmoral is the Scottish home of the British Royal Family. The Castle Ballroom, gardens and exhibitions are open from the 29th March until the 31st July. Visitors are able to view the Castle Ballroom, the largest room in the Castle, used for a number of formal occasions when Her Majesty is in residence. This is a rare opportunity to see many original pieces of fine art and treasures which normally reside within the private rooms of the Castle. An audio tour is included in the admission price and guides visitors around the formal and production gardens as well as a number of other exhibitions located within the stable block. In 2013 visitors area able to enjoy an exhibition of photographs of the Royal Family by Cecil Beaton. The exhibition is organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum London and contains over forty fascinating images. Other displays include a native wildlife exhibition, a look at the Royal Yacht Britannia, a year in the life of Balmoral and our Balmoral audio visual presentation. We have a spacious self service cafe and gift shop selling a wide range of Balmoral souvenirs. Walks and trails are waymarked on the estate so visitors can enjoy a leisurely riverside walk or more strenuous exploration of the many commemorative cairns located within the grounds. Please note that Balmoral closes to visitors on the 31st July. The room open to visitors in the Castle is the Ballroom. Other rooms in the Castle form part of Her Majesty's private residence and as such are not open to the public.

Traveling thru Scotland, visiting Balmoral was a must on my mother’s bucket list. Absolutely beautiful drive to the estate from Perth and equally impressive landscape surrounding the estate. Extremely helpful staff.

The grounds are beautiful but the only part inside the castle you get to see is the ballroom and no photos allowed in the ballroom.

Hello and many thanks for your review.

The reason only one room is open in the Castle is that Balmoral is the Scottish home to the British Royal family and the remainder of the Castle is Her Majesty's private residence. We do state this in our leaflet and on our web site.

At Balmoral we do include in the admission an Audio Guide in a number of languages, exhibitions in the stable block including our "Land Rover, 70 years in the making" exhibition, history and wildlife displays along with an audio visual introduction to the estate. The production and amenity gardens are included as are the way marked walks and trails that take in some of the many monuments and cairns erected since Queen Victoria and Prince Albert purchased the estate in 1852.
Car parking is also free and we provide transport from the car parks to the main site.

Kind Regards
Garry Marsden

Have always wanted to see Balmoral. The exhibitions are good and the grounds and gardens beautiful, you can only see one room which is the old ballroom as this is the Queens private residence. A sense of love and serenity.

Although a Victorian Period castle, Balmoral is in the style of the castles of old. The grounds and gardens are impressive; however, because everything is grown so that it’s at its peak bloom when the royals arrive in August it wasn’t as impressive in late June as it might have been. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The special Land Rover exhibit seemed a tad thin, in case you’re planning to come for that.

Beautiful grounds. The journey there is also really pretty. Great audio guide. Friendly staff.Only 1 room open to the public, but still, worth a visit for the history.
